According to the late star's agent, Barry McPherson, Willaims was involved in a fatal accident when another car abruptly cut him off while he was driving. Expressing deep sorrow, McPherson stated:

"I'm just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented. He was an actor's actor. Filmmakers loved him. He's been the heart of Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He's been so happy with the work that I got him. He's had a balanced career."

Speaking to PEOPLE, Jacob Gribble, the fire chief for Dorset, Vermont, disclosed that the tragic crash occurred on Monday at approximately 5 p.m. on Route 30 near Dorset, Vermont, specifically by Long Trail Auto.

Gribble further revealed that the incident involved a single car and the "Marathon Man" actor's motorcycle, as investigators believe that the car driver was making a turn and failed to notice the motorcycle's presence. Regrettably, the aviator was the only individual injured in the accident and was airlifted to a hospital in New York for immediate medical attention.

The father-of-two, whose remarkable career spanned several decades, made his film debut in 1975 with the thriller "Deadly Hero." The 71-year-old then achieved a career milestone four years later by portraying George Berger in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Hair."

The producer steadfastly stood by her husband's side, offering unwavering support during numerous public appearances celebrating his acting endeavors. From film premieres to television show events, they would grace the red carpets together – sometimes with their kids, creating cherished family moments.

The treat was full of love for his family, life, and craft, and he was truly at the top of his game in all of it," the statement read.
