Heather Rae El Moussa Opens Up About Tongue-Tie Surgery Scheduled For Son

Heather Rae El Moussa has opened up about the challenges facing her first child and son, Tristan Jay.

Although the tot's arrival was met with acceptance and joy, Heather has disclosed the sadness plaguing her since she discovered he would have to undergo surgery to fix his tongue tie. The mama bear shared the information with her three million social media followers in a video that showed her struggling not to give in to her tears.

In a new update shared via her Instagram Story, Heather revealed that Tristan has to get "tongue-tie revision," resulting in her "mama heart hurting today."

"We had the revision done when he was a week and a half old. Unfortunately, down here," "The Flipping El Moussas" star said, pointing to the bottom of her tongue before continuing, "is just really tight again, and it's not getting any better, even after doing all the exercises. We get body work all the time and stretches."

An almost teary Heather stated that even though she knew the procedure was the "best" option for him in the long run, it did not stop her from feeling upset and sad that it would hurt him. In case you do not know, tongue-tie — medically referred to as ankyloglossia — occurs when the strip of skin connecting a baby's tongue to the bottom of their mouth is shorter than usual.

While some tongue-tied babies are seemingly unbothered by the condition, we assume that Tristan falls into the category of babies that suffer restrictions, including difficulty with breastfeeding.

In fact, his mother had previously talked about the problems she faced when it came to the four-month-old boy latching onto her nipple. According to a February report from The Blast, the "Selling Sunset" star had written via her Instagram feed:

"Have been in mama hibernation mode for the past couple [of] weeks but soaking up some fresh air today with my lovey ?? As promised, I want to talk to you guys about my breastfeeding journey because it's definitely been a journey !! I thought…. I'll just pop him on my boob and feed him anytime. Ya no!!!"

Heather then divulged that Tristan had been born with "tongue tie, cheek tie, lip tie, and jaundice," which prevented him from latching on quickly, eventually causing weight loss. Luckily, a specialist  — with the Instagram handle, tonguetietribe, uncovered the problems immediately and provided natural solutions.

"Even with all this going on, I genuinely love breastfeeding. I love the skin to skin connection and think it's such a beautiful bonding experience. It might be hard and challenging at the moment but it is such a special experience that I get to share with our baby boy and we're working together to make it easier like we're a little team ??," the doting mom finished.

The post touched a nerve in her fans' hearts, and they applauded her for her honesty and courage in the comment section.

Over the weekend, The Blast detailed how Heather shut down allegations that she preferred her son to her stepkids — Taylor and Brayden James, whom her man shares with his ex-wife Christina Hall.

The "Love in the Time of Machines" actress had to do so upon receiving an influx of snide remarks and questions about the whereabouts of the 12-year-old and her seven-year-old brother whenever she posted content about Tristan.

For example, one person had asked if the California native "ever mentions her step kids anymore" when she posted four images that showcased her and Tarek spending quality time with their baby boy. Using the opportunity of an interview to address the situation, Heather stated:

"Taylor and Brayden are in school all day, and I'm home with Tristan. I can capture moments with Tristan easily."

She clarified that Tarek and Christina have a 50/50 custody agreement, meaning the kids spent more time with their biological mother than with her. "They're also busy with sports and tutoring— they always have something going on. I blink, and it's 8 o'clock at night. So, when we're all together, the last thing I'm doing is standing around taking photos with all three kids," the former Playboy model added.
