As you may already know, Beyoncé is on a world tour called the Renaissance World Tour for the 8th time in her career. This colossal tour started in Europe and Sweden and went through many cities, like Stockholm, Bruxelles, Cardiff, Paris, London, Barcelona, and more recently, Marseille in France.
Unfortunately in the middle of her tour one of her all-time idols, Tina Turner, passed away at 83 years of age. Turner had been a real inspiration for Beyoncé throughout her career, and the shocking news of her death led to a tribute that brought tears to everyone's eyes - including Bey herself.
Beyoncé Wouldn't Be Here Without Her
To pay tribute to her idol, Beyoncé has decided to sing "River Deep, Mountain High," an all-time classic of the late star Tina Turner, at the Orange Velodrome in Marseille. All the videos on social media show the same thing, Beyoncé was in tears while singing the song, making the spectators cry with her, which is quite normal because she always said the same something that she repeated at the beginning of the show in Marseille: "I wouldn't be on this stage without Tina Turner."
Why is it not the last time we see a tribute to the singer? Because since her concert in Paris, two days after the sad news about Tina Turner, Beyoncé was already singing for her, and she did it again in London, and again in Barcelona and Marseille, which means she will sing for her until the end of the tour to give a full tribute to the person that inspired her the most during her career. While Beyoncé is the queen of pop for many people, Tina Turner is the "queen of rock," said Beyoncé.
Tina Turner has died because of a long illness she was fighting against in Switzerland, and only a few hours after the news, Beyoncé paid an homage to her: "My beloved queen. I love you endlessly. I am so grateful for your inspiration and all the ways you have paved the way. You are strong and resilient. You are the epitome of passion and power. We are all fortunate to have witnessed your kindness and beautiful spirit that will remain forever. Thank you for all you have done." Through this message, we can feel the emotion and passion Beyoncé had for her.
A Legendary Collaboration
In 2005, Beyoncé sang "Proud Mary," a legendary song of Tina Turner, during an event organized by George W. Bush at the Kennedy Center to pay tribute to Tina Turner for her contribution to American Culture like Tony Bennett, Suzanne Farrell, Julie Harris, and Robert Redford. At that time she said she would never forget when Tina Turner performed for the first time in front of her eyes. She added that he had never seen such a powerful and fabulous woman, and she complimented her on her legs. She explained why Tina Tuner was her idol and inspiration during that performance. But who thought that three years later, she would be singing beside her on the same stage during the Grammy Awards Ceremony?
In 2008, Beyoncé sang again "Proud Mary," but this time with the original interpreter, her all-time idol Tina Turner. That duo, those shining dresses, every fan of both singers remember that performance, particularly Beyoncé's mom, Tina Knowles: "We were both so excited and when she arrived, we were told that she was in the other room. We all witnessed Beyoncé turning into a five-year-old, skipping across the floor to embrace her. I was the biggest fan and had my own story of meeting Tina in 1972. Beyonce always talked about the two Tinas that she loved and admired. She had done a tribute to her years before at the Kennedy Honors, and we had a chance to meet her there. She was lovely. She was bigger than life, but this was different. She got to perform side-by-side with Tina Turner! They had so much laughter those days; it is one of Beyonce's best memories. Without this legendary, gorgeous, resilient woman, the world would be better. When I need to get my super strength together and know that I can overcome anything, I think of Tina Turner, who started over in her mid 40's and became the biggest superstar. It always gives me hope that it's not about the age. It's about the person. Today I celebrate this amazing, beautiful, resilient queen. She will be sadly missed. She was "Simply The Best" 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️
Here's an homage as brilliant as her daughter's, who will undoubtedly continue to sing for her until the end of her incredible tour.
