Singer Britney Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, have both spoken out against a new report that claims that she is "on meth."
Now the 41-year-old pop star's lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, is stepping in to slam the "false and defamatory" report that the singer is addicted to drugs.
Britney Spears' Lawyer Speaks Out Against 'Exploitative, Harassing, and Outrageous' New Report Over Alleged Drug Use
On Sunday, Britney’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart sent the Daily Mail a legal letter concerning the “exploitation” of Britney’s two children, Sean Preston, 17, and Jayden James, 16, according to Page Six.
On Saturday, June 10, the Daily Mail released a new report that shared a concerned quote from K-Fed about Britney's alleged drug use. “I fear she’s on meth – I’ve been praying someone would make it public and that she wakes up,” Kevin told the publication, adding that their two teenage sons “have seen drugs being delivered to her house.”
“The Daily Mail, through Daphne Barak, posted a story yesterday containing numerous false and defamatory fabrications concerning my client Britney Spears that are attributed to Kevin Federline and his children, in particular regarding ‘crystal meth,'” Rosengart’s letter read.
“I have separately learnt that on several occasions, Ms. Barak sought to contact Britney under false pretenses, again her minor children, which is exploitative, harassing, and outrageous,” Rosengart continued. “And moreover, Britney’s representatives were never contacted prior to the publication of the story, further demonstrating actual malice and reckless disregard for the truth.”
“Britney is indeed a public figure, but this conduct is beyond the pale and completely unacceptable. It is shoddy even by today’s standards of ‘journalism’ and the unfair scrutiny she has faced,” the letter concluded.
“I will follow up separately, but for present purposes, please confirm that the Daily Mail will immediately delete and retract that false and defamatory story and conduct an internal investigation regarding this matter and the abuse of Britney and her children,” they added.
As of Sunday night, the article was still able to be seen on the Daily Mail website. However, Daphne Barak did speak to Page Six, telling them, “There are 12 days filming with Federline, his wife, his family, and others. All – By his request.”
Barak also mentioned that only a “small percentage” of the interview “has been released and made headlines,” which means that it is possible the new reports will be shared in the coming days.
Kevin Federline And Britney Spears Slam 'Not True' Report Concerning Her Drug Use
Although the quote about Britney being "on meth" reportedly came from him, Kevin Federline spoke to TMZ on Sunday to set the record straight. He claimed that the authors of the report “have decided to fabricate lies and publish the heartache our family has endured, along with the trauma of our minor children in the Daily Mail and The Sun.”
Kevin admitted that he "did allow" them in his home “because we trusted them, but that trust was lost and we severed ties back in March for many reasons we choose not to go into here." Although he says that the report was fabricated, he does not specify what information was fabricated.
"It is very distressing that she continues to harass our family when we have repeatedly asked her to leave us alone. As was previously published, our family did speak with Ms. Barak and Mr. Gunasti a few times, and this was done in a respectful way with love & compassion for Britney and the Spears family,” Kevin continued. “Her lies and attempts to exploit minors is click bait and another repulsive example of where, unfortunately, certain journalism has sunk today."
Britney Spears Says That The Allegations Don’t ‘Make Any Sense’

A few hours before her lawyer's letter was published, Britney took to Instagram to fire back at the allegations herself. "The fact that people are claiming things that are not true is so sad ... This may not even be them saying such things because it doesn't make any sense to me for them to be saying that," she wrote. She added a line from the article where her son, Sean Preston, allegedly says, "She needs to listen to us before it's too late."
Britney then seemed to address her sons directly, writing, "Do you remember every visit you came to my home, you went into your room and locked the door ??? I never saw you guys … Jayden played the piano and we made music together … But the day I told him I wanted to see you guys more, I never saw you again. It makes me sad because I tried so hard to make things nice for you and it was never good enough. So you guys go behind my back and talk about me … it breaks my heart and the news is so low …"
"l've always felt like the news bullies me … It's sad because everyone sits back as if that's ok to make up lies to that extent ... Why am I told I have to sit back and rise above ??? When they all go so low ???" she asked. "Hopefully it is just the news being hateful and Kevin nor Preston said any of those things either way I will be fine working out to Throb !!!"
Britney and her husband, actor Sam Asghari, celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary on Friday, June 9, only one day before the new report concerning her alleged drug use was published.
