Referring to the five-day search leading to the discovery of his lifeless body, she shared, "That was just a special few days. Everything in you is on high alert because he can be saved."

She then explained that she had always believed it was up to her to be the protector and guardian in her family. In the Screen Actors Guild Awards winner's words to The Times:

"I'm the one that went into the world. So it was my role. But I am slowly retiring from that. I've done a lot of work where I don't want to assume that I can fix people. They have to want to fix themselves, and me caring, living, and fretting about them doesn't solve it. They have to want to change."

Kim further asserted that Chris fought many demons while struggling with substance abuse problems, including heavy drinking. Using a lesson, she learned from one of her friends who dealt with similar issues, the "Mannequin" star stated:

"A friend of mine, who's a big advocate of AA, which my brother never went to, said, 'Alcohol is a mistress that gets you alone and then kills you,'" she shares. "It was startling to hear that with such a bare-bones clarity. And that's exactly what happened."

Ultimately, the 66-year-old was pleased that her dad, Dennis Cattrall, was not alive to experience Chris' passing, as she felt he would not have been able to handle it despite his "tough" demeanor.

Last December, Kim honored another beloved family member who had passed on, her mother, Shane. The Blast noted that the Glamour Award winner had taken to Instagram to upload multiple photographs that showed her and the late matriarch at different notable moments, including the former's graduation.

While the first two slides showed the mother-daughter duo beaming at the camera, the third featured a collage of them sharing a heartfelt hug, laughing uproariously, and conversing. The fourth slide came with a vintage shot of the pair in their younger years posing in front of a tree.

A fifth pic highlighted a blurry vision of the Golden Globe-winning actress pouting as if to kiss her mom, who had dark sunglasses on. The final slide seemed to be the most touching sight, showcasing a white gardenia planted next to a cardboard sign bearing her mom's name and the timeline, 1929 – 2022. Those dates reappeared in the post's caption as Kim penned:

"Shane Cattrall 1929 – 2022. Rest in peace Mum ❤️."

Along with getting over 260k likes from well-wishers, the post also birthed a reaction from the blonde beauty's friends, fans, and colleagues in the comments. Leading the pack was comedian Alan Carr, who wrote, "Sorry darling. Sending you lots of love ❤️," and "Queer as Folk" reboot front-runner Stephen Dunn, who typed, "sending all my love ❤️ ✨✨."
