It comes after Lily-Rose received criticism for her role in the controversial series "The Idol," which featured her character in multiple risqué scenes.

Lily-Rose has also defended herself from the backlash, explaining why her character was portrayed like that. She recently praised her father for debuting his new film at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

Per Daily MailDepp has no qualms about his daughter, Lily-Rose starring in the explicit new series, "The Idol."

A source shared that the actor is happy that the 24-year-old "is carving out a career of her own and challenging herself to take on roles that interest her and test her."

The insider said, "He loves that she is her own person and becoming her own actress. She isn't resting her career on his success. He loves that she is such a strong person, especially now that she has gotten some extra attention with her recent role in The Idol."

As for the criticism that has trailed Lily-Rose since the series debuted at Cannes, Depp feels it is a sign that his daughter "must be doing something right."

"He is proud of her and not lending anything to the extra chatter and drama that the role brings," the insider continued.

Amid the heavy backlash from critics, Lily-Rose came out to defend her character, Joceyln, explaining why viewers often saw her bare in the series.

The young actress said, per Daily Mail, "'The way that she dresses, for example, is her trying to tell you something all the time... or express herself in some kind of way. I also think that the occasional bareness of the character physically mirrors the bareness that we get to see emotionally in her."

And while many might have believed that director Sam Levinson solely portrayed Joyceln as the way she is, Lily-Rose revealed that this was not the case.

She added, "I was given the privilege of being really involved in the creation of this character and the ins and outs of how she expresses herself."

Lily-Rose also defended Levinson after critics slammed him for cranking up the nudity and violence in the series to seemingly exploitative levels.

In an interview, she shared that he was "the best director I have ever worked with" for "so many reasons."

She added, per Page Six, "Never have I felt more supported or respected in a creative space, my input, and opinions more valued."

The actress also noted that working with Levinson was a collaborative process, adding that her fellow co-stars felt the same way.

"Working with Sam is a true collaboration in every way — it matters to him, more than anything, not only what his actors think about the work, but how we feel performing it."

At the time, Lily-Rose also shared more about her experience on set, saying that Levinson "created an environment" where she felt "seen, heard, and appreciated."

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she revealed how happy she was about his achievement after years of his career being derailed by his legal battles with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

"I'm super happy for him. I'm super excited," Lily-Rose said of her father, per Page Six. "And it's so awesome that we get to do projects that we're super proud of."

In the historical drama, which debuted on March 16, Johnny portrayed Louis XV, also known as Louis the Beloved. The demised monarch ruled France from September 1, 1715, until he died in 1774.
