Read on for more details.
Jay Leno Divulges The One Thing That'll Make Him Retire
From his legendary tenure as the host of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to his current role as the host of "Jay Leno's Garage," the comedian has maintained an unmatched dedication to his craft, providing laughter and entertainment to millions of fans worldwide.
However, Leno's recent revelation sheds light on his vulnerability and the significance he places on his health. During a recent interview with Page Six ahead of the premiere of "Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge," the 73-year-old comedian candidly admitted that the only event that would forcibly make him consider retiring would be a stroke.
The former "The Jay Leno Show" host expressed his intention to continue performing and working as long as he remains physically able, highlighting the strong bond he has forged with his audience over the years.
"Then you slow down. That's when you retire and have your stroke," he explained.
A Motorcycle Accident Couldn't Make Jay Leno Retire
According to Page Six, the "You Bet Your Life" host divulged to a Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter that he was hospitalized early this year after a motorcycle accident that left him with multiple broken bones.
Leno, an avid motorcycle enthusiast known for his passion for automobiles, was reportedly riding his motorcycle on a scenic route when he noticed the scent of leaking gas.
"It's so funny you should say that," he explained after being asked about his recovery from a November 2022 car fire that severely burned him.
"That was the first accident. OK?" he added. "Then, just last week, I got knocked off my motorcycle. So I've got a broken collarbone. I've got two broken ribs. I've got two cracked kneecaps."
Leno assured the interviewer he was "Ok" before recounting the incident.
"So I turned down a side street and cut through a parking lot, and unbeknownst to me, some guy had a wire strung across the parking lot but with no flag hanging from it," he explained. "So, I didn't see it until it was too late. It just clotheslined me and knocked me off the bike."
He added, "The bike kept going, and you know how that works out."
He Was Severely Burned In A Car Fire Incident
The comedian suffered "serious" facial burn injuries following a car fire accident during one of his cherished automobile adventures. According to Page Six, he was involved in a harrowing accident when one of the cars in his garage burst into flames following a gas leakage. The incident resulted in Leno sustaining severe burn injuries.
Sources told the news outlet that the explosion severely burned the left side of the comedian's face but did not injure his eye or ear. According to the report, Leno was hospitalized at the Grossman Burn Center in LA.
"I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire," he confirmed to Variety then. "I am OK. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet."
Jay Leno's Health Update Following Both Accidents
Leno gave a health update following the two accidents that occurred within a short period: a car fire and a motorcycle accident. He reassured fans about his well-being and shared details about the incidents.
In his conversation with Page Six before the "Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge premiere," Leno reassured his fans that he sustained only minor injuries in the accidents and is currently faring better.
"I'm doing good! I'm doing good! It's fine! I'm fine," he insisted. "Look, when you're in my position, when you're any kind of celebrity, you're luckier than most people."
He added, "So when something bad happens to you, you can't whine and complain about it because bad things happen to people every day — either they get burned, or they get cut — and they don't have the financial wherewithal I did."
