Tenn. Governor Considering Clemency for Cyntoia Brown After Pleas from Celebs Like T.I. and Kim Kardashian

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is weighing his options when it comes to the clemency application of Cyntoia Brown, whose case has garnered national attention after she received support from several notable celebrities.

Todd B. Skelton, Deputy Counsel to the Governor, tells The Blast, "The governor and legal counsel are currently reviewing Cyntoia Brown’s clemency application."

The Tennessee Supreme Court ruled last week that Brown, who was convicted of first-degree murder and robbery in 2006, will have to serve 51 years behind bars before she is eligible for release.

Brown was 16 when she shot and killed Johnny Allen at his home in 2004. She claimed to have shot him in self-defense and only went home with him in the first place because of an abusive boyfriend who forced her into prostitution.

Her case has garnered support from celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and T.I., who posted on social media about her case several times this week.
