Lauren Drain Kagan's Best-Selling Book
Lauren Drain Kagan has come a long way ever since her childhood. She grew up as a member of the Westboro Baptist Church, known for being an evil cult due to its "homophobic picketing," as she was brought into the organization by her father when she was just 14 years old.
Once she got older, she realized she disagreed with the Church's beliefs, so she decided to leave the Church and begin her social media career. But she lost her entire family because the 37-year-old did not have her family's support like she thought she would.
"I struggled the first six months. The first month was super hard. I didn't want to leave originally. I wasn't ready. It's a huge sacrifice to leave your family. I missed my family so much. I loved them so much. I felt like I disappointed them, that I was a shame and disgrace," she told Glamour. "I struggled because that was my family and life for seven years. It was most of my teenage and college years. I wasn't ready to give up my family."
The 37-year-old decided to write a book called "Banished: Surviving My Years in the Westboro Baptist Church" to discuss her experience in the Church and bring awareness.
