Will Smith debuted the first looks for the main characters in the upcoming live-action remake of “Aladdin,” but needed to assure fans who were left feeling a little “blue” after the reveal.
Smith revealed the cover of Entertainment Weekly, which prominently features Jasmine, Aladdin and The Genie. Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud are dead ringers for the two young stars of the movie.
Even though Smith is rocking the Genie’s trademark top knot and ponytail, he must have suspected fans of the Disney classic would point out he didn’t exactly look like Robin Williams’ character in the animated feature. So, he made it perfectly clear to fans, “and yes, I’m gonna be BLUE!”
It’s unclear how Guy Ritchie will pull off the blue look with Smith’s version of the Genie, but they have until May 2019 to figure it out.
