"Ginny & Georgia" got greenlit for two more seasons with a new showrunner.
The Netflix original series, which stars Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey as respective titular characters, will now be run by Sarah Glinski for its third and fourth seasons; new reports have claimed. The writer will take over from Debra J. Fisher, who served as the dramedy's showrunner during its first two seasons.
"Ginny & Georgia" Renewed For Two Seasons Alongside A New Showrunner
Although "Ginny & Georgia" has been a spectacular success since it began in 2021, its second season did far better than Netflix expected. After its premiere, the project spent three weeks at the top of the streaming service's internal rankings for English-language series, earning over 500 million hours of global watch time over its first 28 days.
Thus, it was a no-brainer that Netflix made the call to order more seasons. However, it has been reported that the four-month gap between the second season's premiere and the announcement of the new pickup was due to the streamer's decision to take their time with making the news public.
When sharing the big news on its Instagram page, the handler wrote "3 & 4" in white against a black background, alongside a caption that acknowledged the role that viewers played in it becoming a hit that required two different seasons. "This is because of the fans 🙏🫶🍑❤️," the caption read.

The announcement immediately ignited the comment section, and many people, including this fan, celebrated, writing, "I was worried that Netflix would cancel the show... thank goodness it's not over!!!"
"I knew you'll be renewed for more than 1 season! So excited to see this mother & daughter duo for more seasons," a second excited fan chimed. A third person exclaimed, "I SCREAMED FINALLY WE LOVE YA'LL. SO EXCITED," and a fourth penned, "Aaah gngbts 😭🍑 congratulations to all!!! So much love for the peaches."
"LETS FUCKING GOOOOO," a fifth person commented, while this netizen expressed concern over Netflix's plans, typing, "But plzzzzzz don't tell me u wrote the 4th to be the last I don't deserve that kinda pain."
As for the showrunner swap, Deadline shared that it came after speculations about some friction between Fisher and "Ginny & Georgia" creator Sarah Lampert. Things did not settle between the pair because Fisher's departure became more imminent last month.
She has now been replaced by Glinski, who was seemingly hired before the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, which started on May 2. The new showrunner was previously an executive producer on "Degrassi: The Next Generation," a creative producer on "Taste Buds," and a writer for "Little Mosque on the Prairie."
She has also won two Canadian Screenwriter Awards and was named one of Hollywood Reporter's 'Next Generation in 2013.
