Singer Britney Spears might be ready to make a career comeback after all!
The 41-year-old pop star released "Hold Me Closer" with Sir Elton John last year. The hit single quickly became a smash success and fans are eager to hear her next hit.
Although Britney doesn't seem to have any plans to tour again, it sounds like she still wants to release more music in the near future.
Britney Spears Reportedly Turned Down Offers But Is Still Interested in Recording
On Tuesday, a source told Page Six that Britney "still loves dancing and making music" and is just more selective in what projects she chooses to work on. Now that she is free of her 13-year conservatorship, the "Toxic" singer is free to "call the shots" in her career.
“She has talked about recording again and has gotten plenty of offers, some of which she’s turned down, but it’s all about timing and picking the right projects. She’s savvy like that," the insider said. “The beauty of Britney being free again is that she gets to call the shots for the first time in a very long time, and she’ll do it at her own pace.”
The insider continued to say that "Britney has trauma from touring," adding, “For so many years, she was handed grueling itineraries and made to perform — even before her conservatorship.” The source claimed that Britney hit her "breaking point" in 2018 “when her Las Vegas residency was finally over but then her team decided to turn it into an international tour.” That tour featured over thirty concerts across North America and Europe.
“She desperately needed a break after four years in Vegas and didn’t get one," the source explained. "And then they had the nerve to book a second Vegas residency right after." However, Britney's second residency, "Britney: Dominion," never happened, as her father, Jamie Spears, sent her to a mental health facility ahead of its 2019 start date.
Britney May Never Tour Or Hold Another Concert Ever Again
This would not be the first insider to say that Britney is completely done with touring. Earlier this week, TMZ reported that the "Stronger" singer is not interested in performing on a stage anymore. Although music star Paul Anka says that Britney is still one of the top five performers in the world, another insider told the outlet that the pop star is tired of "the grind" of performing.
Although some fans might be disappointed by this news, it isn't just coming through anonymous sources. Britney herself has opened up about her the highs and the lows of her career in the captions of her posts on social media. She herself indicated that she was not looking forward to performing on a stage again due to how "draining" the rehearsals could be.
In December 2021, Britney took to Instagram in a since-deleted post to tell her followers directly “I don’t think I ever want to do it again” and said it was “too much” for her to deal with.
“I know I’m not playing in huge arenas with my loud band anymore but I will be honest and say life on the road is hard!!! My first three years in the biz and on the road were great but I’ll be completely honest and say that after those three tours and the pace I was going … I don’t think I ever want to do it again !!! I hated it!!! I read an interview a long time ago where Will Smith even said the music industry is a whole different animal compared to movies !!! I agree it’s too much!!!”
In a March 2023 Instagram post, she said that touring around the country could be “pretty draining” and reminded her followers that she has been in the music industry "for over half of my life."
“I was in the music industry for over half of my life !!! I was told by someone who directed movies that the music industry is a different beast … especially touring !!!” Britney explained. “It’s fun at first but if you’ve done it for a while, being in a different city constantly gets pretty draining !!! I have done like 10 tours !!!”
Although she may not be eager to tour again, fans are hopeful to hear some new music... and possibly a new album!
