She Died After A Ghastly Car Accident
The renowned actress, beloved by many for her talent and vibrant personality, tragically lost her life following a devastating auto crash in August, with the fire department sharing that her vehicle "burst into flames and came to rest 30 feet inside the two-story home."
At the time of her passing, Heche was 53 years old. She sustained various injuries as she crashed her car into a house at top speed on August 5th, 2022. A week later, she was confirmed dead at a hospital in Los Angeles.
"Today we lost a bright light, a kind, and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend," a rep told the publication in a statement on behalf of Heche's family. Anne Heche's Son And Ex-Partner Pay Tribute To Her
After her passing, Heche's son Atlas and ex-partner, James Tupper, reflected on her legacy in a loving tribute.
"My mom was the brightest person I've ever known," Atlas told Los Angeles Inquisitor magazine in January, per E! News. "She always knew how to solve a problem or help a friend. She always knew the right thing to do. I cannot say how grateful I am or how much I miss her."
Tupper remembered the late actress saying, "Anne and I were together for more than a decade, we have a beautiful son together, and in that time, she was the very definition of light in our lives, always bringing fun, love, and energy." He added, "She will always be remembered in our hearts and minds."
Drugs Were Found In Anne Heche's System
A thorough investigation into the cause of her death revealed that drugs were found in Heche's system.
According to the autopsy report obtained by The Blast, there was the presence of an inactive metabolite of cocaine in her system known as benzoylecgonine. This revelation means there was no proof of impairment by illicit substances at the time of Heche's accident.
Cannabinoids were detected in the actress' urine sample. Still, they were not in her bloodstream, meaning Heche used the substance consistently before her car crash and not during the unfortunate incident.
While Fentanyl was in her bloodstream, per the report, Heche had received it as treatment at the hospital.
According to E! News, the coroner's report revealed that her inhalation injuries caused "changes to the respiratory system that decreases the intake of oxygen needed to sustain life," resulting in anoxic brain injury. A lack of oxygen causes this injury.
The report read, "The sternal fracture she sustained is expected to be painful while breathing when she was in her vehicle, further complicating oxygenation and significantly contributing to the death.
