Ed Sheeran Eulogizes Eminem For Helping Him Cure Stammering
Ed Sheeran, 32, has opened up about his remarkable journey in overcoming a childhood stammer, as he attributes much of his success to the influence of rap icon Eminem, per Insider.
In a candid conversation on "The Howard Stern Show" last week, Sheeran shared that listening and rapping to Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" helped him conquer his speech impediment.
Recalling the transformative impact of Eminem's lyrics, the "Thinking Out Loud" singer expressed, "By learning that record and rapping it back to back to back, it cured my stutter."
Ed Sheeran Speaks On His Relationship With Eminem
Elsewhere in his conversation with Howard Stern, the "Castle on the Hill" singer shared candid insights about the nature of their bond and the creative camaraderie that has blossomed between them.
It all began when they first collaborated on the chart-topping hit "River" in 2017. Since then, the unlikely duo, known for their distinct musical styles, have come together to form a connection that transcends genres and captivates fans worldwide.
"I think it's different with Eminem because he is quite reclusive, doesn't see or meet that many people," said Sheeran. "I've known him now six years, and we've done three songs together; I've played with him twice on stage. He's another person I relate to, as he lives in his hometown still and has his ecosystem around him."
Sheeran and Eminem, upon the rapper's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, performed "Stan," Eminem's 2000 hit song that featured Dido.
He reminisced on the opportunity, sharing, "I was like, 'I can't say no. I can't.' So, I got a plane straight after my music video, flew there for the song, and then that night flew back. It was worth it."
He Was Vindicated Of Plagiarism Charges
In a highly anticipated decision that could have cost the singer massive damages, a Manhattan federal jury found Sheeran innocent of plagiarism charges leveled against him, as reported by The Blast.
The trial, which spanned several months, centered around accusations that Sheeran had unlawfully appropriated musical elements from Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" in his chart-topping hit, "Thinking Out Loud."
However, after careful deliberation, the federal jury reached a unanimous decision, declaring Sheeran innocent and absolving him of wrongdoing.
Per Billboard, the "Shape Of You" hitmaker was being sued by Kathryn Townsend Griffin and other heirs of Ed Townsend, who alleged that he had "knowingly and intentionally infringed" the song and stole the "heart" from one of the most "instantly recognizable songs in R&B history."
Throughout the trial, Sheeran maintained his innocence, vehemently denying the plagiarism allegations and asserting that he drew inspiration from various musical influences, as many artists do. His legal team presented a robust defense, highlighting the fundamental role of creative inspiration and the inherent similarities that can arise in musical compositions.
Ed Sheeran Considering Switching To Country Music
In an unexpected turn of events, the "Perfect" crooner has revealed his profound desire to explore the world of country music, according to Billboard.
Known for his heartfelt ballads and infectious pop hits, Sheeran has captivated millions with his soul-stirring lyrics and mesmerizing guitar skills. However, he has now revealed that he'll love to embark on a new musical journey.
He was invited to perform at the recently held Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards in Frisco, Texas, where he made the revelation.
"I talk about this to my wife all the time. I would love to transition into the country," he told the publication. "I love the culture of it; I just love the songwriting. It's just like, brilliant songs."
He shared that he's a big fan of the genre and that he and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, play it in their home "all day long."
"I've lived in Nashville all of 2013 and 2018," he said. "It left a lasting mark on me. I love country music, and I feel accepted here. It's great."
