Kevin Costner Reportedly 'Trying To Get' Wife Back After Facing Reality Of Divorce

Kevin Costner is not ready to lose his almost two-decade-long partner Christine Baumgartner. The renowned actor is reportedly trying his best to win back the former model days after she filed for a divorce.

While Baumgartner noted "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split, reports claim she was "unhappy" with Costner. The actor's busy schedule left little time to spend together as a family.

Costner was reportedly shocked by Baumgartner's plan to end the marriage after 18 years. He has responded to the divorce filing and is seeking joint custody of their three kids. However, it's unsure what the next step will be toward winning back his wife.

Costner is not ready to let go of his wife just yet. Amid the divorce, an insider shared with Us Weekly that the "Robin Hood" actor is still in love with Baumgartner. He is also "trying" to change her mind about their split. The source said he was "blindsided by" the situation and realized he couldn't do without Baumgartner. 

"Everyone thought Kevin and his wife were super happy, so it's all surprising," the source noted. "He truly loves her and is trying to get her back. He's been blindsided by this."

Nonetheless, Costner filed a response to the divorce request from the 49-year-old on Tuesday, May 9th. He wants joint custody of their 15, 14, and 12-year-olds. This marks the "Let Him Go" actor's second divorce as he ended things with his first wife in 1994 after 16 years of marriage.

The source further noted that Costner knew how Baumgartner felt about their relationship. However, he had no idea that she wanted to end things. In response to whether he expected the divorce, the insider explained it was an "unpleasant surprise." A representative for Costner shared a statement about the divorce on his behalf.

He revealed that the 68-year-old was sad about the situation and noted how difficult it was for him. The statement read, per Us Weekly, "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action." The rep asked the public to "respect" his and Baumgartner's privacy as they go through the process.

A source revealed to People magazine that the "Bodyguard" actor made Baumgartner "unhappy" with his busy schedule and lifestyle earlier in the week. Costner spent most of his time away from the family, which bothered her. However, things escalated more as Costner continued working on the hit show "Yellowstone" and landed more roles in upcoming films like "Horizon."

The source noted, "Kevin is not around very much during filming. His absence has been tough for her." Baumgartner feared that he had become too "obsessed with filming" and didn't want him to start another project.

Costner being in demand seemingly led him to prioritize his career over his family life. The outlet further shared, "All of this success and excitement over the new project probably took his attention away from his family more than he realized. Since it didn't look like that would change and likely could get worse, it caused tension at home."

While the divorce surprised many, Baumgartner previously hinted at her intention to split from Costner. Radar Online reported in 2022 that the ex-model warned Costner about his obsession with the hit show "Yellowstone."

She allegedly demanded that he cut ties with the show to spend more time with the family, considering his long absence from them. A source told the news outlet then that producers wanted the show "to go on forever," considering how successful it was.

Baumgartner, on the other hand, was not happy about this. Amid the divorce plans, the show's network Paramount recently announced their intention to conclude "Yellowstone" with the current season. However, it's unsure whether this is enough to change Baumgartner's mind about the breakup.
