During a recent interview with Allure, Jennifer Garner talked about her public image as a "nice" person. After her divorce from Ben Affleck in 2018, the actress revamped her life to reflect normalcy, especially for their kids. With the nature of her Instagram posts, Garner believes she is now seen as everyone's "nice" mother and actress.
However, Garner doesn't like how this reputation can affect the reality of her everyday life. She said, "The problem with, 'Oh, she's so nice' is that when I have any boundary, people think of it as much more than it is. The problem is being recognized on a day where I'm not so nice or when I have blackness in my soul."
The "Elektra" actress revealed that she's had bad days where she "just can't do it." She added, "I scowl at people before they can approach me. I'm not perfect and I don't think I'm rude, but I'm not good at being fake. I'm an open-book kind of person."
Jennifer Garner's Parenting Experience
Garner and Affleck married in a beautiful ceremony in 2005 and officially filed for divorce in 2018. During the interview, she shared that there was immense pressure because of her celebrity relationship and the spotlight on their kids.
The "Ghost Of Girlfriends Past" actress shared that she was on 24/7 "baby watch" by the press, and it soon became hard to "hold a conversation" with friends. Eventually, Garner cut off all celebrity news sources in her life, including news stations like CNN and the Huffington Post.
She said, "I learned a while ago that I'm too sensitive to what is written about me, my family. The only things I have on my phone are The New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal." It's so bad that Garner sometimes sees celebrities with kids and never knew "they got married and had a baby."
She Shared Some Parenting Advice
During her conversation with Allure, Garner also shared some quality parenting advice. She said kids eventually "figure out who they are and what they are" as they age and usually gravitate "toward lovely." The "Yes Day" actress said she has "a lot of faith in my kids."
Garner explained that she doesn't always love their behavior but knows it's hard to raise a kid in 2023. She said, "We didn't have the eyes on us that our kids have. I was such a first-time mom. My eldest didn't have a shot. She couldn't have a free thought — I was all over her. I was a nightmare for everyone around me."
Jennifer Garner's Kids Don't Like Watching Her Films
Garner's three kids with Affleck include 17-year-old Violet Anne, 13-year-old Seraphina Rose, 13, and 10-year-old Samuel. During the interview, the actress shared that her kids don't like watching the movies she stars in.
Garner said, "They don't mind watching their dad but want me to be their mom. They don't want to see me upset, and women cry more about what we do. And they don't want to see me in a romantic way."
