Doja Cat Ignited A Fresh Controversy Over Her New Bat Tattoo Inspired By Starting Over
Doja — real name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini — has become the internet's newest sensation after she showcased the tattoo of the skeleton of a giant bat taking up space on her back. The 27-year-old took to Instagram to drop four images, beginning with a double-layered mirror selfie in what appeared to be a cubicle within the tattoo shop.
While the other photos within the post provided total views of the ink, the third slide included an attempt from the "Kiss Me More" singer to thwart negative comments on the drawing. In the attached screenshot, which gave viewers a clue about the meaning behind the tattoo, she highlighted a portion that read:
"Bats often represent death in the sense of letting go of the old, and bringing in the new. They are symbols of transition, of initiation, and the start of a new beginning."
Despite that, multiple people still went ahead to air their thoughts on the sinister nature of the ink, with one person writing, "Devil man crybaby vibes for some reason." A second person claimed that they missed the "old Doja," and a third declared that the "So High" hitmaker's soul was "gone forever."
"Oh great, you're pure satanic," a fourth Instagram user added, while a fifth encouraged her to admit that she had "Illuminati ties." Luckily, a few of Doja's fans came to her rescue, with this netizen pointing out, "She even put the meaning so yall dumb a** bums don't go screaming satanic again!"
A second supporter acknowledged, "Cool a** tattoo. love you, dojo." This would not be the first time the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards host would face accusations of promoting satanism with her tattoos.
A few weeks ago, the "Need to Know" singer had to defend herself against the backlash when she debuted an artwork on her left forearm. The ink featured a hybrid mix of animal and human characteristics with a female body, a clawed foot, a hoofed foot, and some scaly parts.
The tattoo, inspired by an illustration from the Italian philosopher Fortunio Liceti's 1665 book, "De Monstris," also included the number four sitting by the clawed foot. After reading various comments parroting the sentiment of her being "possessed by demons," Doja opted to hit back through a series of Instastories.
While one update read, "F**k you and f**k what you believe, b***h," the second taunted, "And I f****d your mom b***h." The ARIA Music Awards winner stated, "Satan said thanks for all the buzz," in a third Story before she concluded, "Goodnight, p***y."
The 'Woman' Singer Tapped Into Her 'Evil' Side For THIS Snap
Doja leaned into the satanic allegations when she uploaded an image of herself in a crocheted mask with two horns. The red show covered most of her face, including her nose and mouth, leaving her eyes and signature filled-in eyebrows open.
Per The Blast, she credited a small business — Kazclop, artistic creators of yarn gloves, hats, leg warmers, Balaklavas, and tops. The record producer later took to her Stories to share even more views of her devilish attire, zooming in to show the intricate details of the Balaklava mask.
In one shot, the "Freaky Deaky" artist's breasts are seen through the black-and-white knitted cropped top she is wearing. She also donned a see-through bottom with straps around her bare waist, highlighting her belly button adorned with a diamond ring.
The since-expired updates proved one fan's previous point that the more people complained about Doja's "unacceptable" behavior, "the more she would post stuff like this. Keep them comin' 👹🙌🏻."
