Kevin Costner Reportedly 'Stunned' At Wife's Decision To File For Divorce

Kevin Costner is stunned after getting hit with divorce papers by his wife of 18 years, Christine Baumgartner. The duo, who got married in September 2004, share three children: Cayden, Hayes, and daughter Grace.

Sources have revealed the "Bodyguard" actor was left stunned after his estranged wife filed for divorce this week. The star's first marriage ended in a messy and public $80 million divorce due to allegations of infidelity, but a close friend has stated that this was not the case in his second marriage.

The couple had just been seen together at the Oscars in March, posing for the cameras, and according to Costner's friend, "Kevin was very surprised by Christine's actions, he obviously doesn't want the divorce, and he would take her back. It's disappointing; he loves her and his children." 

Insiders also noted to Page Six that the film director's busy schedule may have contributed to the breakdown of his 18-year marriage with Baumgartner. The 68-year-old had been filming for the hit series "Yellowstone" in Montana, spending months away from home, which may have strained their relationship. 

A rep for the father-of-seven denied any allegations of cheating and told the publication that any of such was "absolutely not true." The "Thirteen Days" star's close buddy and a production source on his show both expressed shock at the 49-year-old's decision to file for divorce, with the friend stating, "I have no idea if Kevin even knows what the reasons are." The source also added:

"No-one knew about any issues. He was not 'sequestered' on the set and would often go home to visit his family." 

As to the reason for the split, The Blast reported that the handbag designer cited "irreconcilable differences." She asked in the court documents obtained for joint custody of their three children and did not ask for spousal support as they already had a prenuptial agreement.

Costner's representative spoke to the outlet and expressed sadness over the situation, stating, "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired, resulting in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action." 

The statement also urged people to respect the privacy of the couple and their children as they go through this difficult time. On Tuesday, the "No Way Out" actor filed his response to Baumgartner's divorce petition, requesting joint custody of their children. The document stated, "Spousal support to be payable to petitioner under the terms of the parties' Premarital Agreement." 

The reality TV star found a reason to smile amidst dealing with her parent's incarceration. And while she has been vocal about her struggles, like being the caretaker to her younger siblings, she is happy for her crush's newfound freedom.

The Blast noted that the "Chrisley Knows Best" star shared a screenshot of the breaking news report of Christine Baumgartner filing for divorce on her Instagram story. 

The post showed a picture of the former couple smiling for the camera, and in response, the entrepreneur posted a gif of a child excitedly pumping his fists with an "OMG!" sticker. The 25-year-old added a text that read, "If you know...you know."

Her excitement was because she had previously expressed her admiration for the "Dances with Wolves" star during a 2022 episode of her podcast, "Unlocked With Savannah Chrisley."

In the episode, her mother, Julie, became uncomfortable seeing how her daughter gushed over the older actor, calling it "creepy and weird." The podcaster made it even more awkward when she said, "Age is just a number," praising him for his youthful looks. This caused the Chrisley family's matriarch to retort, "Only sixty-seven — I can't believe you just said he is only sixty-seven." 

The social media influencer then laughed and clarified that her intentions were innocent. "I don't mean it that way. Like, I mean, clearly too old for me, but he would be like my old man…like my old man past 100%," she explained. 

She further noted with a shrug, "Cause I mean, if you don't look it —" indicating that age was just a number as long as the person looked like the two-time Oscar winner.
