Actor Alec Baldwin is hitting the pause button on filming "Rust" in order to spend some time with his family.
Even though his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, revealed that he had missed Ilaria's seven-month birthday, it looks like the 65-year-old actor returned to spend some quality time with his family before he returns to the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Montana to finish up his work on the Western film.
Alec Baldwin Pauses 'Rust' Filming To Spend Time With Wife Hilaria Baldwin and Kids
On Wednesday night, the Boston native took to Instagram to share a photo of the actor posing alongside his seven children. Although the actor has previously traveled to Montana to film his Twister-esque movie “Supercell,” which featured a quiet release earlier this year, Hilaria says that Alec has never been gone for this long before.
“Alec has been away, filming, and our family has never been apart for so long,” she wrote. “We got him back for a day off, before he heads back to Montana.”
Fortunately, it looks like she’s making the most of the brief time that the family has together. “Grateful for our magically disastrous family photos and all the zoom in moments that make us smile,” she wrote.
“Also: anyone else’s kid tries to buy a giant piñata at party city?!?? Little ilaria is like: what is this wild family I’ve found myself in?!??” she asked, adding, “Ps Carmen dressed edu, lu, her and me in white and red strips with jeans…she’s our little captain stylist.”
“Precious memories with your beautiful family,” one fan commented. “Love this,” another follower wrote. “Those are some absolutely precious pictures. Those are all worth framing, Hilaria,” a third fan chimed in along with several red heart emojis.
“Love this. Adopt me!!!!!!” another follower teased. “Enjoy your family time together!” another fan shared. “Clearly he misses all of you. Montana is amazing but family comes [first],” another follower wrote.
The Family Had An Early Birthday Party For Romeo!
The following day, the actor also took to Instagram to share a photo that featured him posing with his family from a different angle. Although his son Romeo’s birthday isn’t until May 17, the family is celebrating it earlier in the month, so it seems that he may be gone for a while.
“A lot going on in this photo. As usual. It was Romeo’s birthday party. (actual birthday is May 17) Thanks to all my children’s friends/classmates who joined us,” he wrote in the caption. “I have never seen kids devour more candy in my lifetime. They’re like locusts. Candy locusts.”
“Every single little human their own unique self, captured here in their own thoughts. Magnificent,” one fan commented. “Imperfect photos are always the best photos. They are all precious,” another follower wrote. “They are on a sugar high! Love it. Great pic!” a third fan chimed in.
Alec Has Been Sharing Photos From The 'Rust' Set In Montana
Only one day before heading home, the “30 Rock” actor took to Instagram to share a photo of Montana’s gorgeous landscape. “Filming RUST in beautiful Montana with the phenomenally talented @patrickscottmcdermott,” he wrote in the caption, tagging Patrick Scott McDermott.
McDermott joined the cast in the role of Lucas Hollister just last week in an Instagram post celebrating the announcement. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with Joel and the rest of the team to bring this story to the screen,” McDermott said in a statement to Variety. “Westerns are a true American art form with a long history – what an exciting genre to be a part of!”
The role of Lucas Hollister was originally played by Brady Noon, but he has been replaced as the production moved from New Mexico to Montana a year and a half after Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on set.
Director Joel Souzawas also hospitalized in the shooting but has since returned to finish up the film, along with most of the original cast and crew. Actors Travis Fimmel, Frances Fisher, and “Supernatural” alum Jensen Ackles have all returned as well.
Production on the film is expected to wrap by the end of the month. “Rust” attorney Melina Spadone made it clear that working firearms will not be used this time around in a statement noting that live ammunition was, is, and always has been, prohibited on set.
“The production will continue to utilize union crew members and will bar any use of working weapons and any form of ammunition. Live ammunition is — and always was — prohibited on set,” she said. “Each and every one of us is wholeheartedly dedicated to realizing Halyna’s vision and paying tribute to her artistry.”
Director Joel Souza Says It's 'Bittersweet' To Complete 'Rust' Without Halyna Hutchins
Director Joel Souza also noted that it is “bittersweet” to finish up the film without the late Hutchins. Her husband, Matthew Hutchins, was added to the film as an executive producer as part of the wrongful death lawsuit settlement last October.
“Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team is joining former cast and crew to complete what Halyna and I started,” Souza said in a statement. “My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud.”
Last month, the Daily Mail reported that documentary filmmaker Rory Kennedy is working on a documentary about Alec Baldwin and the “Rust” shooting. Kennedy was spotted filming Baldwin as he left for Montana. The outlet also noted that her documentary crew is on set in Montana to capture footage of the film’s completion.
Kennedy’s documentary is the second project that will focus on the “Rust” shooting. “Circus of Books” director Rachel Mason and producer Julee Metz are also working on a documentary about Halyna Hutchins, who was a friend of theirs. The film is being made along with the input of Matthew Hutchins.
