Sadie Sink's character Max was fond of the song, and it ended up going on to save her life! "Running Up That Hill" is pivotal in keeping Max from the show's 'Upside Down universe.
Fans were also captivated by "Running Up That Hill" just as much as Max; The opening track on "Hounds Of Love" became a viral success story on TikTok after the fourth season of "Stranger Things" was released.
Its success on TikTok undoubtedly played a role in helping the song capture the number-one spot on the Billboard Global 200 chart! "Running Up That Hill" had previously achieved chart success upon its original release in the US and the UK but had never once gone to number one in either country! The track peaked at number three in England in 1985, per a piece of our coverage on Bush's newfound success last year.
She would take to her blogto express her gratitude to the "Stranger Things" creators when "Running Up That Hill" eventually went to number one.
Bush also expressed her joy for "Running Up That Hill's" success. She wrote, "By featuring 'Running Up That Hill' in such a positive light- as a talisman for Max (one of the main female characters)- the song has been brought into the emotional arena of her story. Fear, conflict, and the power of love are all around her and her friends."
She later continues, "I'm overwhelmed by the scale of affection and support the song is receiving, and it's all happening fast as if it's been driven along by some elemental force. I have to admit I feel moved by it all. Thank you so very much for making the song a No. 1 unexpectedly," she concludes her post.
