Multiple Injuries Reported At Disney World, Universal Orlando For Q1 2023

Central Florida theme parks -- including Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, and others -- must list all of their incidents and injuries with the state each quarter to exempt them from major inspection.

The 2023 first quarter injury reporthas been released, which covers from January through March of this year, and notes a total of seven incidents at Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld Orlando. The injuries noted are only those that resulted in a hospital stay of 24 hours or more or deaths that are reported.

From January to March 2023, Walt Disney World noted four injuries or incidents that occurred on their property. The first happened at the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction inside Magic Kingdom Park on January 5, 2023. A 75-year-old Guest experienced cardiac symptoms after riding the attraction.

The second occurred on February 7, 2023 Kilimanjaro Safaris located inside Disney's Animal Kingdom Park. A 72-year-old Guest with a preexisting condition experienced stroke-like symptoms after riding the attraction.

On February 25, 2023, a 72-year-old Guest felt disoriented after riding the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction inside Disney's Hollywood Studios Park.

And lastly, on March 29, 2023, a 67-year-old Guest fell when entering the ride vehicle on The Seas with Nemo & Friends ride at EPCOT, resulting in a fracture to her leg.

Although not considered an injury, other incidents have occurred at Walt Disney World as of late, including the arrest of a Florida local at Disney Springs — the shopping and dining district located at Walt Disney World. The man was placed into custody after making “derogatory comments” towards Disney Cast Members, yelling at children, and then proceeding to threaten Orange County sheriff’s deputies.

Another Disney Guest, who was from New Jersey, was also arrested and charged with a misdemeanor of exposing himself after he was caught smoking, watching pornography, exposing himself, and masturbating while on a ride at EPCOT in Walt Disney World.

And late last year, a Guest visiting Walt Disney World from California was hospitalized after another Disney Guest bit off a part of her middle finger during an argument at EPCOT. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office report, which was released nearly four months after the fight on December 13, 2022, a fight broke out between two Guests during the Harmonious fireworks show at EPCOT over a blocked view. The fight resulted in punching, kicking, and biting.

From January to March 2023, Universal Orlando noted two injuries or incidents that occurred on their property.

The first injury report occurred on February 11, 2023 at the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit attraction where a 64-year-old suffered from a headache.

And on March 12, 2023, a 47-year-old reported abdominal pain after riding the Jurassic World VelociCoaster.

The only other injury reported at the Central Florida theme parks occurred at SeaWorld Orlando, where a 70-year-old felt dizzy and lightheaded after riding the Cookie Drop. This incident was reported on January 8, 2023.
