The show made its debut on the streamer in November 2019. It finished its second season run of 10 episodes in November 2021, and now it's simply playing the waiting game until Season 3 debuts later this year.
The third season will feature the addition of Jon Hamm ("Mad Men") to the cast. He'll be portraying a corporate titan who is focused on the fictional UBA network and wants to assert Nicole Beharie ("Sleepy Hollow") as the new anchor on "The Morning Show," the fictional in-universe T.V. show for which the show draws its name. In the series, Aniston portrays Alexandra Levy, the co-host of UBA's "TMS," with Witherspoon portraying Bradley Jackson, the other co-host.
THR also notes that Season 3 will feature Julianna Margulies ("The Good Wife," "E.R. ") reprising her role as news anchor Laura Peterson from Season 2. Other actors reportedly set for recurring roles in Season 3 include Tig Notaro, Stephen Fry, and Natalie Morales.
Season 2 of the series showed Alex (Aniston" testing positive for COVID-19 during the early stages of the pandemic and also anchoring "TMS" from her own home. It ended with a cut to black, similar to the first season finale.
The series is co-produced by Media Res, Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine banner, and Aniston's Echo Films banner. Charlotte Stoudt will be the showrunner for Season 3, replacing Kerry Ehrin, who oversaw the first two seasons of "The Morning Show." It's also executive produced by Witherspoon, Aniston, Mimi Leder, Michael Ellenberg, Lauren Neustadter, and Kristin Hahn.
In 2020, co-star Billy Crudup took home a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as "Cory Ellison," in the first season. The show has received a total of 11 Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

"The Morning Show" is not the only streaming television series that Witherspoon is currently working on. The series will follow Witherspoon as a former cheerleader who grifts her way to teaching a cheerleading school in England. The series has already received a two-season, straight-to-series order from the streamer.
Additionally, Witherspoon is slated to reprise her role as Tracy Flick in a sequel to the 1999 cult film, "Election." Witherspoon is reuniting with "Election" filmmaker Alexander Payne for the upcoming sequel, which is being produced as a straight-to-streaming movie for Paramount+.
