The estate of actress Anne Heche is being dragged to court by a credit card company for the late actress owing $36,000 in debt.
The late actress left behind two sons: Homer Laffoon and Atlas Heche Tupper. According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Homer Laffoon, 20, was notified of the debt, as he was named general administrator of her estate in November 2022.
The Estate Of Late Actress Anne Heche Reportedly Owes Over $36,000 In Credit Card Debt
According to a legal filing obtained by The Blast, Anne Heche's account has an unpaid Citibank/Citi Mastercard that currently amounts to $36,131.35.
The document control officer stated, "As reflected on the attached Account Statement, the balance on the Account is $62,011.35. After the attached Account Statement was sent to the decedent, an additional payment or credit/debit was received on the Account for $25,850.00. As of the date of this affidavit, the Account balance of $36,161 .35 is justly due and owing."
Anne's oldest son, Homer, was notified of the claim against the estate, as he is currently serving as the administrator of her estate after a contentious legal battle.
Homer Laffoon Named General Administrator After Lengthy Legal Battle With Ex
“Supercell” actress Anne Heche passed away in a car accident last August. She was hospitalized in Los Angeles on August 5. After being in a coma for several days, the state of California declared her legally dead on August 12. She was kept on life support for two days to prepare her organs for donation and was taken off on August 14.
Which kicked off a lengthy legal battle to take over control of her estate. After a months-long legal battle, a judge finally decided that Homer would be declared the general administrator of her estate instead of Anne’s ex, James Tupper, 57.
Judge Lee Bogdanoff decided in November 2022 that Homer would take legal control over Heche’s remaining assets despite Tupper’s objections. Homer’s attorney, Bryan Phipps, issued a brief statement after the hearing, saying they are glad to leave this “phase” behind them.
"We believe the court reached the correct result this morning, both legally and equitably, and are glad to have this phase of the process behind us,” he said. “With Mr. Tupper's allegations and objections now resolved, we are hopeful the administration of the Estate can proceed without unnecessary complication."
That being said, Judge Bogdanoff did warn that Homer could be removed as administrator if a court found any evidence of fraud or embezzlement. This warning most likely came from Tupper’s allegations that over $200,000 of jewelry had gone missing. At the time, Judge Bogdanoff found no evidence of wrongdoing on behalf of Anne’s son.
Anne Heche’s Son Granted ‘Special Powers’ Over Her Estate
The decision came just over a month after Homer was granted “special powers” of her estate. According to court documents filed at the time, Homer was allowed to "take possession of all the personal property of the estate of the decedent and preserve it from damage, waste, and injury.” He was also given copies of her financial records and personal tax returns.
The court filing stated that Homer is able to now “commence and maintain or defend” lawsuits that might rise against the estate, which puts him in the position to address this latest lawsuit filed by Citibank over her alleged unpaid credit card debt.
Homer filed papers to assume control of his mother’s estate in September, about a month after she passed away. Homer claimed that his mother did not have a will, although Tupper said that the “13 Minutes” actress named him executor of a will over ten years ago. Homer had argued that his mother’s signature on the will was invalid, and it seems a judge agreed.
In an Instagram post on January 5, Homer thanked fans and family friends for the support they showed him following her sudden passing. "Never imagined I'd find myself responsible for mom's IG account, but here we are," he wrote. "First things first, from August to now, the amount of love, care, and support shown by those on social media and IRL has been overwhelming and blessedly received - thank you."
"One day at a time is working for me as I'm sure the healing journey will be a long one," he added. "Your good thoughts and well wishes will continue to comfort me on my path."
