Kim Kardashian Claims She Could Quit Reality TV To Become A 'Full-Time' Lawyer

Reality star Kim Kardashian is committed to criminal justice reform and is ready to put fame aside to focus on a career as a lawyer. She began her journey in criminal justice reform in 2017 after learning about the case of Alice Marie Johnson. 

In December 2021, Kardashian passed the baby bar exam and shared her emotional journey with her followers. The SKIMS founder recently visited California State Prison, Los Angeles.

During the TIME 100 Summit on Tuesday, Kim Kardashian talked about her future in criminal justice reform and expressed her desire to make it a prominent aspect of her career. When asked if she could envision a life without being in the spotlight, she said, per People, "I would be just as happy being an attorney full-time."

Kardashian went on to explain that her journey in criminal justice reform has opened her eyes to a lot of things going on in the world. "The journey just really opened up my eyes so much," she said. "It gets overwhelming because there's so much to be done ... I brought my sister Khloé [Kardashian] to a prison for the first time last week, and that was really eye-opening for her," Kardashian added.

Although the SKIMS founder is not yet a licensed attorney, she hopes that her efforts in the movement will become "her life's most meaningful work." During the discussion with moderator Poppy Harlow, she added, "I always joke with my mom — who's my manager — I say Kim K. is retiring, and I'm just going to be an attorney."

In 2017, Kardashian began her journey in criminal justice reform after hearing about Alice Marie Johnson's case. Johnson had been incarcerated since 1996 for helping facilitate communications in a drug trafficking case. Despite hoping she would be granted clemency by then-President Obama in 2016, Johnson was not one of the 231 individuals granted pardon, many of whom had similar nonviolent drug charges.

The reality star learned of Johnson's story through a video report by Mic. She retweeted the clip, writing "This is so unfair" in the caption, and began advocating for Johnson's Pardon.

In August 2020, Johnson was finally released from prison, and Kardashian continued advocating for other wrongfully convicted inmates. One such case involved a father jailed following the tragic elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where his daughter was killed.

In May 2019, Kardashian revealed her aspiration to pursue a career in law and follow in the footsteps of her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., who famously represented O.J. Simpson in the 1995 murder trial of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

After two years of burning the candle, Kardashian sat for the first-year law students' examination (known as the "baby bar") in December 2021 and passed with flying colors. Excited, the 42-year-old took to Twitter to share the news, saying her law school journey "wasn't easy."

In her emotional post, she wrote, "OMFGGGG I PASSED THE BABY BAR EXAM!!!! Looking in the mirror, I am really proud of the woman looking back today in the reflection." In the lengthy thread, she also revealed that top lawyers had warned her that the baby bar has a "harder pass rate" than the actual bar exam and "was a close to impossible journey." 

Despite the difficulties, Kardashian persevered and succeeded and now feels "so sooooo good to be here and on my way to achieving my goals."

Kardashian remains committed to her mission of criminal justice reform, as demonstrated by her recent visit to California State Prison, Los Angeles, alongside members of the Reform Alliance and other advocates.

According to HuffPost, during her visit, Kardashian engaged with incarcerated individuals to learn about their stories and the challenges they faced that led them into the criminal justice system. She also identified ways the system could better support safety and rehabilitation."

In her statement following the visit, the reality star shared that she hopes to "leverage" her platform to "help change lives and laws." She emphasized that visiting individuals behind bars was an honor, and she remains committed to using her voice to support the advancement of criminal justice reform.
