“The Big Bang Theory” star first got her start on the NBC sitcom “Blossom.” The series officially premiered on January 3, 1991, and wrapped up on May 22, 1995.

Mayim Bialik played the title character, Blossom Russo, a rebellious teenager who was the youngest of three children. She lived with her divorced father, Nick (Ted Wasso), her eldest brother and recovering addict Tony (Michael Stoyanov), and her middle brother Joey (Joey Lawrence). The show also featured her klutzy best friend, Six (Jenna von Oÿ).

Although a "Blossom" reboot has been talked about for years, nothing has ever seemed to come of it until now. In a recent interview, Bialik told Variety that not only has series creator Don Reo completed a script for a new pilot, but the whole cast is interested in returning to the show.

"The show was supposed to be Catcher in the Rye about a girl, which was unusual," Bialik said. "And we'd like to do a reboot that's unusual. We'd like to do a single cam."

She also added, "All of the cast is on board," mostly likely referring to Joey Lawrence, Jenna Von Oy, and Michael Stoyanov, as the three stars made a guest appearance on Bialik's new sitcom, "Call Me Kat," last year.

Although many fans would be thrilled to see a "Blossom" reboot, Mayim Bialik has been pretty busy lately, between filming her current sitcom, co-hosting "Jeopardy!" and even hosting its spin-off series, "Celebrity Jeopardy!"

"My schedule has not been even open enough to think about it, but Don and I are finally ready to have more of a meaningful plan around it. And people ask me all the time about it," Bialik told Variety. "You know, we were an unusual show about a girl at that time. There were no network shows about girls. Everyone was like, 'No one will watch that.' And here we are."

There are also more problems with bringing "Blossom" back on air than one might expect. Entertainment Weekly explained how the original show aired on NBC and was produced by Touchstone Television, which is now a subsidiary of Disney. The original 1991-1995 show is currently available to stream on Hulu, which is also owned by Disney.

"It's a set of conversations with Disney because there's a lot of red tape and there's a lot of complexity," Bialik said, adding, "It's complicated."

Just last week, Mayim Bialik and Don Reo posted together at an event at Bryant University. In her Instagram post, the 47-year-old actress wrote, "Thank you Bryant University (and especially President Gittell & Dean McComb pictured here!) for hosting me and Blossom creator Don Reo yesterday!"

"We had a blast talking about our respective crafts, our 35-year friendship, and answering questions about a Blossom reboot!" she continued. "For those of you who weren’t there, we are working on it. I mean, don’t you wanna know what Blossom Russo’s been up to?"

Bialik and Reo have been working on a pilot script for a reboot as far back as 2021. At the time, she told Entertainment Weekly that the two "do have a limited reboot that we would like to do. We've had a lot of trouble getting our network on board."

She went on to say that she might get the fans involved to help make it happen. "I may just start a grassroots fan campaign to see if we can do it because we absolutely would love people to see where these characters are," she added. "[Reo] and I talked about it and we kind of decided after literally years of trying to work on this that I would probably just say it out loud. We do have a well-formed idea and we would love someone to let us do it."
