Melissa McCarthy has opened up about her parenting style!

In a new interview, the "Identity Thief" star, who has two kids, has broken down how she raises her kids with her hands-on approach. She shares those children — daughters Vivian and Georgette — with her husband of nearly 18 years, Ben Falcone.

Melissa McCarthy's Kids Dubbed Her 'Midway Mom' Thanks To Her Strict Parenting

McCarthy has proven she is not the fun character she takes on in various Hollywood films when raising her two teen daughters. She spilled the tea during her most recent session with PEOPLE for the outlet's weekly cover story. In the 52-year-old actress' words:

"I'm really like, 'What are you doing? Do you want to go over your homework?' Ben is much more, 'Let them figure it out.' I'm like, 'Or I could empty their school bag and line up all their pencils.' I call it helping. Other people would probably say, 'You're meddling.'"

The "Life of the Party" star added that even though she knew that her daughters are "not babies anymore," she would not hesitate to "put them in a BabyBjörn" and carry them around if she could.

She then admitted that her kids have become so used to seeing her being strict that they have a nickname for her whenever her fun side shows up. She earned the nickname — "Midway Mom" — when she bought the teens a wiener dog after initially shutting down the idea. As she recalled:

"We have two dogs, and they all want a third one. And I said, 'Absolutely not. We're not doing this. This is crazy. We already have two dogs.' And suddenly I called the girls, and I was like, 'Guess who's getting a wiener dog?' And they're like, 'Midway Mom!'"

The term was formed as the family passed through the Midway Airport in Chicago, returning from visiting McCarthy's parents. While there, the "The Heat" lead was more agreeable than usual, allowing Vivian and Georgette to get whatever they wanted.

At some point, she asked if they wanted "a cozy beer," and their response was, "Midway Mom's awesome." Asides from occasionally fulfilling their wishes, the Primetime Emmy Awards winner has also had to deal with the awkwardness of sexually educating them.

The Blast reported last October the "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" actress spoke about her experience the first time she attempted to have a sex talk with Vivian. The awkward moment she occurred while the mother-daughter duo picked up dog poop at the back of their home.

What McCarthy thought was a "really wonderful time" to engage in the conversation quickly turned awry as the teenager became immediately embarrassed when her mother brought it up. Despite the reaction, the "Gilmore Girls" alum carried on, as she detailed:

"I was like, 'There are different parts of bodies…uh.' I was just like, 'Let me be awkward and get through it.'"

Minus that encounter, the "God's Favorite Idiot" lead and her husband has continued conversations about sensitive issues with their children.

The Seven7 Owner Channeled THIS Part Of Herself In Her Upcoming Film

With the release of her latest role as Ursula in the upcoming live-action film, "The Little Mermaid," looking closer, McCarthy has disclosed the trade secret she employed for it. The comedian revealed earlier this month that her drag queen persona influenced how she portrayed the infamous villainess.

"There's a drag queen that lives in me. I'm always right on the verge of going full-time with her," she stated before lauding Ursula as "everything" she wanted "in character." She added:

"To keep the humor and the sadness and the edginess to Ursula is everything I want in a character — and frankly, everything I want in a drag queen."

Gushing even more about the sea witch, the Southern Illinois University graduate added, "That is a woman who has seen it, been in it, dug her way back out. All my references are terrible, but I kept thinking, 'Many a Pall Mall has this woman had.'"

As reported by The Blast, the fashion designer had previously admitted that singing was one of the things that scared her "the most" about Ursula. So, it is pretty lucky that she had her drag queen persona to rely on when it mattered.
