Adele Says She Would Never Reach EGOT Status For THIS Reason

Adele commented about musical productions during an appearance on "The Late Late Show with James Corden," in which she admitted she "f*cking hates musicals."

She told Corden that she would never write a musical or anything like that and doesn't think she'll be able to achieve EGOT status. The iconic singer also reminisced on the past eight years with her friend Corden while filming the final "Carpool Karaoke."

Last year, the British singer won her first Emmy award for the broadcast of her special event "Adele: One Night Only." As a result, the "Easy on Me" singer is now just one Tony award away from accomplishing EGOT status - the most coveted achievement in the entertainment industry bestowed upon individuals who have won all four major entertainment awards - Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony - during their lifetime.

However, during her appearance on "The Late Late Show with James Corden," Adele revealed that she had no plans to write a musical or pursue a Tony award. When asked about her aspirations to attain EGOT status, Adele bluntly replied, "I really don't think that that is ever gonna happen."

She emphasized her aversion to musicals by stating, "I would never write a musical or anything like that because I fucking hate musicals. I fucking hate musicals. I don't think I've ever said how much I fucking hate musicals."

Although there are alternative routes to winning a Tony award, Broadway musicals are often the easiest for artists like Adele. However, the "Skyfall" hitmaker believes it is not worth pursuing as she dislikes musicals.

According to Insider, when questioned by Corden, who has performed in multiple musicals, Adele stated that she "respects" musicals as an art form but does not appreciate the constant switch between dialogue and singing. "I just don't need to hear everything in f*cking song all the time," she said. "I also think the EGO suits me better," she added.

The "Hello" singer is not the only celebrity to express their disinterest in musicals on "The Late Late Show." In 2021, actress Mayim Bialik shared a similar opinion, saying that musicals are "ridiculous" due to the switches from acting to singing.

"If you want to sing, just sing. Go in a car with James Corden. Cut an album, like an LP, that's music," Bialik joked. "If you want to act and have a thing, you do the play. I don't want them together. Just got to keep it separated."

Viola Davis joined the exclusive club of EGOT winners earlier this year after receiving a Grammy award for narrating her memoir, "Finding Me." She is the 18th person to achieve this impressive feat, which includes notable individuals such as Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Audrey Hepburn, and Jennifer Hudson. Robert Lopez holds the distinction of being a double EGOT winner.

On the other hand, Adele has a distinguished list of awards to her name but is not yet an EGOT recipient. She won her first and only Oscar award in 2013 for Best Original Song for her song "Skyfall" and has also been honored with one Emmy award. She also has an impressive collection of 18 Grammy awards over the years, with the most recent Grammy Award for the best pop solo performance for her song "Easy On Me."

At the beginning of the segment, Adele surprised Corden on the final episode of "Carpool Karaoke" when she snuck into his house and woke him up by playing some large cymbals next to his bed.

Adele then offered to drive Corden to work for his last week on the job, saying, "Last week of work, I'm going to drive you to work. Let's do the final carpool." She added, "I'm actually not a brilliant driver… I also can't sing without closing my eyes."

"Well, this is brilliant," Corden replied before admitting he was "excited and scared in equal measure" to be leaving "The Late Late Show."

Corden reflected on some of his favorite moments during the show, stating, "It's been a crazy eight years," to which Adele replied she was "very, very sad" about his departure. Corden reminisced on some of his favorite moments on the series, listing Adele and Stevie Wonder among the most memorable guests. The heartfelt exchange between the two longtime friends, Corden and Adele, made for a fitting end to a beloved show.
