Melanie Lynskey Denied Friendship by 'Gigantic' Actor

Melanie Lynskey reveals that her friendships in Hollywood are non-existent, as a few stars have opted not to keep in contact.
Melanie Lynskey Seems Like A Good Time
The Yellowjackets actress appeared on Josh Horowitz's "Happy Sad Confused" podcast this week, admitting that keeping actors as friends is more complicated than one would think. Lynskey shared that she had worked with two notable actors who opted not to continue a friendship for one reason or another, but it affected her deeply.
"I did this movie with this actor, and when we were finished, I said, 'Oh my gosh, I'm just so happy that I met you and we have this friendship,' and she said, 'Yeah, I'm not friends with actors. I don't stay friends with actors,'" Lynskey recounted.
The confession from the unknown actor was jarring to Lynskey, who had just spent weeks being emotionally intimate with them and felt that a friendship was forming outside the set. How could she have been so wrong, she wondered.
"And I was like, 'What?'" she told Horowitz. "I was so shocked by it," the only clue she gave about who the person could be was that it was "someone who had been working longer than me."
Melanie Lynskey Lost Another Hollywood Friend
The actress, who is married to Jason Ritter, claimed that this wasn't the first friendship heartbreak that she has experienced. She and Titanic actress Kate Winslet were very close back when filming the murder mystery film Heavenly Creatures.
"When I lost touch with Kate, it was more heartbreaking than some breakups I've had," she tells the host. "It was so painful, and it wasn't like anything happened; it's just she became a gigantic, international movie star, and she didn't have a lot of time, and then, suddenly, she'd be in Los Angeles and not have time."
The women hold no malice between one another, and Lynskey admits their losing touch "gradually happened." It didn't make the transition any easier, though. "It happens in relationships. People drifted apart, but that was so painful for me."
Lynskey knows why she is so attached. "I was so sensitive. I was always so injured by losing these great loves I was having." The Two and A Half Men actress added, "It got easier."
Melanie Lynskey Still Respects Kate Winslet
Lynskey maintains that when she sees Winslet, it's always pleasant. The last time she saw her was in 2009 at the premiere of Away We Go, directed by Sam Mendes, who was Winslet's husband.
Lynskey tells Horowitz that she looks up to her fellow actress, especially after being body shamed by publications and so-called fans. She saw her as and "inspiration" and hoped Winslet would keep her head up.
"I know she's a very, very confident person, but everyone's sensitive, and she's compassionate," she remembers. "And the way she was dissected and talked about … I remember at the time being so furious on her behalf."
It sounds like Kate is missing out on a good friend in Melanie.
