A date for the UK sexual assault allegations against Kevin Spacey has been set. The actor will be spending his summer in England.
Kevin Spacey Up Against Sex Offences Charges
The House of Cards star’s trial will start on June 28. The news was revealed by the Southwark Crown Court today. The test will also occur here and will run for about four weeks.
It’s unclear where Spacey is currently, but he was not in the courtroom today in person; he appeared via video link, claims Reuters. The disgraced actor is battling 12 charges for alleged offenses against four men.
The alleged assaults occurred between 2001 and 2013; Spacey has pleaded not guilty to all counts. He barely spoke when appearing via a link; the actor confirmed his government name, Kevin Spacey Fowler while wearing a grey suit with a burgundy tie.
Allegations Surfaced In May 2022
The first time these allegations from the UK came to light was in May of last year. At the time, it was only four counts of sexual assault and one causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
In July 2022, he pleaded not guilty to those charges. The seven additional charges came about in November 2022, a decision by Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service. At the top of the year in January, Spacey pleaded not guilty to one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, three counts of indecent assault, and three counts of sexual assault.
Spacey was also accused of sexual advances, harassment, and assault by American actor Anthony Rapp. He claims the two-time Academy Award winner engaged inappropriately with him when he was 14.
The allegations began popping up in 2017, and it turned from one accuser to more than 30 people accusing Spacey of inappropriate interactions ranging from harassment to attempted rape. The London allegations came from 2004 to 2015 when Spacey was the artistic director at London’s Old Vic Theatre.
Kevin Spacey’s Star Was Rising
At the time of the allegations, Spacey’s career was experiencing a surge. He was starring in, and executive producing the Netflix America hit House of Cards. The show was based on a British show of the same name.
He appeared at all the big parties again and made the rounds during awards season. In All The Money In The World, he also cast the movie that told the story of the kidnapping of the Getty heir.
Following the allegations, Spacey was eventually dropped by a publicist and removed from House of Cards, with his character being killed off, leaving no room for him to return if all this blew over. The show promoted Robin Wright to solo lead the final season.
He was re-casted in All The Money In The World. He’s been snubbed. During this time, Spacey also used the moment to come out as gay, but many believed it was a ploy to overshadow his damaging allegations.
