Hilary Leavitt is also attached to “The Boroughs” as an executive producer under the Duffers’ Upside Down Pictures production company.

Currently, the Duffers are hard at work on “Stranger Things” Season 5, which will be the final chapter of the event series. However, while the show ends with the fifth season, Netflix has also announced a new animated series based on the franchise that’s also in the works. The Duffers are also executive producing the animated show under their Upside Down Pictures production banner with Shan Levy and Dan Cohen via 21 Laps and Eric Robles via Flying Bark Productions.

They are also working on an original play based on the franchise, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow.” The show will make its debut on the West End in late 2023. Meanwhile, Caitlin Schneiderhan, a writer for the show, is penning an Eddie Munson prequel novel available at bookstores later this Halloween.

Besides these projects, the Duffers are also working on an adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s 1984 fantasy novel, “The Talisman.” They are also reportedly working on a new live-action adaptation of the popular manga and anime series, “Death Note.” Adam Wingard previously directed a live-action adaptation of the series, initially created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and artist Takeshi Obata, that debuted on Netflix in 2017. The American adaptation was maligned mainly by fans and critics, scoring only 36% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Deadline reports that the new project from the Duffers will be a live-action series take. Halia Abdel-Meguid is attached to write, and executive adapt the Duffers’ Upside Down banner.

The Boroughs” will stream exclusively on Netflix later on. The show does not yet have an official debut date. “Stranger Things 5” and its new animated spinoff will also debut on the streamer later, at date to be announced. However, production on the fifth and final chapter is expected to start later this year, so it’s unlikely that Season 5 willbe ready until 2024
