Scarlett Johansson Reveals The 'Gamechanger' That Made Her Marry Husband Colin Jost

Scarlett Johansson is sharing the secret to her blissful marriage with Colin Jost!

The Marvel star is well-known across the globe for her stunning looks and exceptional acting skills. Despite being one of the world's most wanted women, the "Black Widow" actress has experienced her fair share of failed relationships.

After two attempts to settle down, the 38-year-old found the perfect match in her current husband. With ever-growing happiness and an adorable son between them, the blonde bombshell is revealing how the couple makes things work.

During a recent appearance on Gwyneth Paltrow's "Goop" podcast, the New Yorker was candid about her marriage to the "Saturday Night Live" star and why this love story differed from the others.

Spilling the tea, the "Sing" voice actress admitted that she never understood what she wanted from her partners. The entertainer noted that figuring out what one yearned for in one's significant other was crucial to building a relationship.

"I didn't know what I wanted or needed from somebody else," the Hollywood Walk of Fame honoree confessed. "I never realized, 'Oh, it's essential for me; I need to be with a compassionate person. That's a fundamental characteristic that has to be there.' "

Johansson continued, "And I think that understanding what those fundamental things are that you need in a partner is a must, I think — for longevity, anyway. I think identifying those things was a game-changer for me."

Before walking down the aisle with Jost in October 2020, the "Ghost in the Shell" star said her first vows to the Canadian heartthrob Ryan Reynolds in 2008. Following their divorce, the Hollywood sensation found love again with the businessman Romain Dauriac.

The TV personality and her ex-husband welcomed a daughter named Rose before ending their marriage in 2017. After two divorces, the Oscar nominee noted that she finally realized what she wanted in a partner. 

The blonde beauty said about her relationship with the comedian: "I was finally able to step back and respect myself enough to know what those [fundamental] things were and be okay with it, you know? That was a life lesson."

Following her candid confession, Paltrow gushed, "I'm so happy for you." The podcast host could relate to her guest's story as the "Iron Man" actress found Mr. Right in her second marriage with Brad Falchuk after separating from Chris Martin.

The love story of one of Hollywood's favorite low-key couples began decades before they became famous.

In September 2017, the "How to Be Single" actor opened up about his first meeting with Johansson. The comedian met the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" actress in 2006 when the 38-year-old served as an "SNL" guest host.

"The first time she hosted was the first year I was a writer on the show," Jost explained. "So, we've known each other since then … she's the best."

Although this encounter sparked a longtime friendship, the pair did not become romantically involved until May 2017. The moment they occurred when the "Marriage Story" star made a special appearance on SNL's season finale that year.

After the show, sources claimed the duo shared a warm embrace during the program's customary goodnights before locking lips at the after-party. Speculations about the pair's relationship continued until Jost confirmed that the dating rumors were true.

In September 2017, the Peabody Award winner raved about his romance with the "Lost in Translation" actress during his appearance at the Emmy Awards. "She's pretty cool … it's hard to have a lot of complaints; she's pretty awesome," he declared. "I'm thrilled. I feel fortunate."

Two months later, the low-key couple made their public debut as an item at the American Museum of Natural History Gala in New York City. However, they avoided flaunting their romance on the red carpet as they arrived separately. Instead, the duo posed for a couple of pictures inside the event.

Fast forward to 2019, the couple survived two years together and seemingly appeared more in love as they announced their engagement in May. The wedding bells did not ring until October 2020, when the duo tied the knot in a small and intimate ceremony because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
