Scarlett Johansson recently shared, in an interview, that she once randomly ran into Bill Murray at an empty bar. The actress explained that the meeting "was like a dream" and said they just "talked through that time."

Johansson and Murray played opposing roles in "Lost in Translation," a 2003 romantic comedy-drama. During the interview, Johansson also spoke about the lessons her husband, Colin Jost, has taught her. She talked about "understanding the fundamental things" a person needs from a partner.

Scarlett Johannson recently opened up to Gwyneth Paltrow on a new episode of her "Goop" podcast. During their conversation, Johansson recalled a surprise run-in with former costar Bill Murray.

She said, per People magazine, "I didn't see him for a decade or more. It was a long time. And then I walked into a bar with my ex-boyfriend from a long time ago ... and there was only one person at the bar, and it was Bill Murray. "It was so weird. I walked in and saw him sitting there — nobody else there — and I was like, 'Oh my God.' I had to walk out. I was like, 'It's Bill! I haven't seen him in so long.'"

Johansson explained that Murray was surprised to see her, mainly because it's been so long. She said the meeting "was like a dream," They specifically "talked through that time."

She Recalled Her Experience Filming With Him

Johansson also recalled her time filming "Lost in Translation" with Murray, saying it was a challenging experience for him. She said, "I think it was hard for him, too, because he had a lot of stuff going on with his family and marriage. And it was like he did not know what we were doing in Tokyo over those weeks."

Johansson and Murray played opposing sides in the 2003 feature film by Sofia Coppola. The romantic comedy-drama follows Bob (played by Murray) as he goes on a Tokyo vacation to promote a brand while suffering a midlife crisis. In Tokyo, he meets college graduate Charlotte, and as a duo, they consider their futures together and apart.

During Johansson's interview with Paltrow, she also spoke about the lessons she's learned from her husband, Colin Jost. The "Black Widow" star said she realized she didn't know what she "wanted or needed from somebody else."

Johansson said, "I never realized, 'Oh, it's essential for me; I need to be with a compassionate person. That's a fundamental characteristic that has to be there.' And I think that understanding what fundamental things you need in a partner is a must — for longevity, anyway."

Johansson said identifying her fundamentals for a partner was a "game changer" for her relationships. She and Jost, an actor and writer with SNL, married in 2020 and have a son, Cosmo. Johansson also has a daughter, Rose, with former partner Romain Dauriac.

Bill Murray Was Accused Of Misconduct

In April 2022, Murray was accused by a co-worker of sexual misconduct while filming "Being Mortal." At the time, he had an interview with CNBC, saying he and the accuser (a woman) only had a "difference of opinion."

The "What About Bob" star was later accused by actress Lucy Liu of misconduct on the set of "Charlie's Angels." During an interview on the Los Angeles Times' Asian Enough podcast, Liu recalled that Murray had shouted at her on the film's set.

She said, per People, "Some of the languages were inexcusable and unacceptable, and I was not going just to sit there and take it. So, I stood up for myself and didn't regret it. Because no matter how low on the totem pole you may be or wherever you came from, there's no need to condescend or to put other people down. And I would not stand down, and nor should I have."
