Serena Williams Is Reportedly Working On A Memoir That Could Fetch Her $10 Million

According to reports, Serena Williams is working on a new memoir deal worth over eight figures. The memoir news comes after Williams launched her production company, 926 Production. The company already has several projects in the works, including a soccer documentary titled "Copa '71." 

Williams was credited as an executive producer on the biographical drama, "King Richard." The film was about her and her sister Venus' childhood with their father, Richard, who introduced them to tennis. The star athlete announced her decision to retire from tennis last year, saying it’s time to do other things in life.

Insiders recently revealed to Page Six that Serena Williams is shopping around for a new memoir deal, with offers estimated for $10 million and above. One source shared that the publishing world is buzzing about the biography and speculated that the tennis icon has "eight-figure deals on the table."

Another insider told the news outlet that Williams has likely already closed a deal, as her team was initially interested in multi-book offers. This upcoming book would be Williams' second memoir after the 2009 release of My Life: Queen of the Court, which she wrote via a ghostwriter.

Since the release of the first memoir, Williams has hit a lot of milestones in life, especially regarding her tennis career. The 41-year-old has married tech giant Alexis Ohanian, had her daughter, Alexis Olympia, and battled and conquered numerous health issues.

The news of the memoir deal comes shortly after Williams launched her new multimedia production company, 926 Productions. Williams is working at the company with newly appointed president Caroline Currier. She also recently shared a first look into a new deal with Amazon Studios.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on the company's launch, Williams said, "With the launch of 926 Productions, we aim to elevate female and diverse voices through content that speaks to everyone. I'm so excited to begin this next chapter of my career alongside Caroline, a woman who understands the art of storytelling and is passionate about evolving the entertainment industry in new directions."

Williams added that she's hyped about collaborating with Currier and creating "unique projects that inspire audiences across all platforms." Their company already has several projects planned, including a documentary titled "Copa '71." According to THR, the soccer documentary delves into the 1971 unofficial Women's World Cup.

In line with her film interests, Williams was credited as an executive producer on the 2021 biographical drama "King Richard." The film detailed the early lives of her and her sister, Venus, as they were introduced to tennis by their father and eventual trainer, Richard Williams.

The movie was highly applauded upon its release and eventually nominated for six Academy Awards, including the Best Picture category. Lead actor Will Smith received the Best Actor Award for portraying her father, Richard." The film also featured Aunjanue Ellis, Demi Singleton, Jon Bernthal, Saniyya Sidney, and Tony Goldwyn.

In 2022, Williams announced that she'd officially retired from tennis to focus on family and other aspects of her life. During a subsequent interview with Gayle King, the sports icon explained that she had given her "whole life to tennis," adding that it's finally time for her to give her life to something different.

Williams also shared that her father is pushing for her to un-retire and play "two more Grand Slams," which she said isn't "likely to happen anytime soon." Despite being retired and having all the time for her family and herself, Williams said the adjustment have been difficult. She shared, "I don't know how to relax. I have to schedule it in my schedule."

However, two recent Instagram posts have hinted that Williams may be considering returning to the tennis court. The first post was photos of herself "out hitting" in the morning and the second was another of her on the court "trying to stay fit."
