In response to Matthew McConaughey's speculation that they might be blood relatives, American actor Woody Harrelson has asked that a DNA test be taken to dispel any remaining doubts.

McConaughey recently stated that he and Harrelson might be related because his mother "knew" Harrelson's father but refused to take the test because he didn't want to lose a father.

Harrelson clarified his position by dismissing McConaughey's excuse, explaining that he could gain a father and a brother.

According to Insider, the "Now You See Me" star, 61, urged his friend and colleague not to let his fears get the best of him by preventing him from taking the DNA test to determine whether or not they are indeed related.

Harrelson appeared on Tuesday's edition of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," where he discussed McConaughey's revelation in-depth and weighed in on the issue of the actor's paternity doubt.

"Well, I'll just say there is some veracity to that thought because we talked to Ma' Mac, Matthew's legitimate mother, and she let us know one time… I mean, this is crazy. We were in Greece watching the US team win the World Cup, and I don't know, I mentioned something about regrets," he narrated.

The "True Detective" star added, "And I said, 'You know, it's odd that my father has no regrets.' And I have known Ma' Mac a long time, and she goes, 'I knew… your father.' And it was the ellipses I found a little troubling or interesting. 'I knew your father.'"

The "Triangle of Sadness" star went on to share that the way McConaughey's mother paused when she said "knew" was "filled with innuendo," also pointing out that the time his father and the "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" actor's mother's paths crossed was around the time he was born.

"The year of his birth, nine months before, she was on a sabbatical from her relationship with his supposed father, Jim," he noted.

Harrelson then acknowledged McConaughey's fear of not wanting the DNA because he fears losing a father, but the "Zombieland" star urged him to take the test, noting that there's a plus side to it if his suspicions are confirmed as he'll be gaining a father and a brother.

"We want to go for a test, but it's a much bigger deal for him. I mean, he feels like he is losing a father. But I'm like, no, you're gaining a different father and a brother," the "Rampart" actor shared.

McConaughey revealed his suspicion of having blood ties with Harrelson during a recent appearance on Kelly Ripa's "Let's Talk Off Camera" podcast.

The "Magic Mike" actor told Ripa, "You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and where I end, has always been like a faint line. And that's part of our bromance, right?"

He added, "My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew. And you see pictures of us; my family thinks many pictures of him are me. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him."

The actor's doubts about the identity of his real father were instigated by a puzzling message his mother shared about "knowing" Harrelson's father when he was a young child.

"In Greece a few years ago, we're sitting around talking about how close we are and our families. And my mom is there, and she says, 'Woody, I knew your dad,'" McConaughey recounted.

"Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after 'knew.' It was a loaded K-N-E-W," he added, referencing his suspicion of a sexual encounter between them.

The "Sing" star told Ripa, "We went on to unpack what this 'knew' meant and did some math and found out that his dad was on leave at the same time my mom and dad were in their second divorce. Then there's possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, a meeting, or a 'new' moment," McConaughey teased.
