Ex-NBA Star Joe Johnson Sues Baby Mama, Pleads to Lower Child Support

Former NBA star Joe Johnson wants his child support payments to be lowered, saying he doesn’t make anywhere near the $2 million a month he was pulling in years ago.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Johnson recently sued Shannon Becton, the mother of his 12-year-old son, to lower his monthly support checks.
The ex-NBA star explains he has battled his baby mama in court multiple times in the past couple of years. They currently share joint legal custody and worked out a flexible custody schedule due to his then-NBA schedule.
Johnson says at the time, the child support amount was determined because he was pulling in $2 million a month from his NBA career. His baby mama was pulling in $2,000 a month at the time.
Over the years, Johnson’s child support amount has varied depending on different factors. The last court order had Johnson paying Becton $6,250 a month in support, which included her rent and other bills. He covered her moving expenses whenever he got traded to a different team.
He says since the last court order, he has had a "substantial change" in his financial circumstances, saying, "Specifically, Father’s income has significantly decreased."
The former NBA star's baby mama has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
Joe Johnson came into the league in 2001 and last played for the Houston Rockets in the 2017-18 season. He pulled in over $214 million over the course of 17 seasons.
