Johnny Depp‘s attorneys don’t want to “silence” Amber Heard — in fact, they want to hear from her in a big way.
As The Blast first reported, Depp sued Heard for defamation over an op-ed Heard wrote last year where she referred to herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” Depp denies ever abusing Heard and is asking for $50 million in damages.
Following the story, Heard’s attorney, Eric George, said of the lawsuit, “This frivolous action is just the latest of Johnny Depp’s repeated efforts to silence Amber Heard. She will not be silenced.”
Now Depp’s attorney, Adam Waldman, tells The Blast, “Saying ‘they want to silence me’ doesn’t sound like a denial by Ms. Heard of Mr. Depp’s 40 page, evidence-packed complaint.”
He continues, “We hardly intend to silence Ms. Heard — to the contrary, we intend to subpoena and compel evidence from her, her three hoax–assisting friends, and Elon Musk. We look forward to holding the overwhelming video, photographic and eyewitness evidence up against Amber Heard’s (so far silent) attempts to explain the inexplicable.”
In his lawsuit, Depp takes issue with an article Heard wrote for the Washington Post in December 2018, in which she referred to herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.”
Although Depp was not named, he claims the entire article “depends on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.”
Depp calls the “false allegations” against him “an elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity” for her and “advance her career.”
He claims that Heard’s abuse allegations were “conclusively refuted by two separate responding police officers, a litany of neutral third-party witnesses, and 87 newly obtained surveillance camera videos.”
The lawsuit also claims that shortly after their marriage, Heard began a relationship with Musk.
“Unbeknownst to Mr. Depp, no later than one month after his marriage to Ms. Heard, she was spending time in a new relationship with Tesla and Space-X founder, Elon Musk,” the documents state.
Depp claims Heard received many “late night” visits from Musk at Depp’s residence and used the building’s personnel to facilitate the visits. He claims the “Aquaman” star asked staff at the building to “give her ‘friend Elon’ access to the building’s parking garage and the penthouse elevator ‘late at night.’”
Depp is suing for defamation and asking for damages in excess of $50,000,000.
A rep for Musk tells The Blast, “Elon and Amber didn’t start seeing each other until May 2016, and even then it was infrequent. They were not on the same continent for most of this time. Their relationship didn’t become romantic until much later.”
