Rachel Brosnahan Admits It's Hard To Let Go As She Bids 'Marvelous Mrs Maisel' Goodbye

The American period-comedy drama series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," which premiered in March 2017, finally ends after five delightful seasons.

In light of that, the show's main character Rachel Brosnahan who stars as an aspiring stand-up comedian Miriam "Midge" Maisel, is opening up about parting ways with the production, revealing how challenging it is to move on.

During the premiere of the fifth and final season of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" in New York City, Brosnahan appeared on the red carpet and unleashed her emotions about the show's end.

She spoke with PEOPLE at The Standard, High Line hotel, touching on how difficult it was to let go of her character physically and emotionally.

"They become a part of you," she shared. "You become a part of them in ways that you can't articulate."  

The Emmy winner looked exquisite for the ceremony in a red corset and an ankle-length sparkly red column skirt paired with red strappy heels. Shedding more light on bidding the series goodbye, she elaborated on how tough it was to immediately transition into another project, different from "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."  

She said, "The hardest thing was moving just a couple of weeks after we wrapped into this play, The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window, that I was doing at BAM [The Brooklyn Academy Theater]." 

She continued, "I realized how much, physically, [Midge] was a part of me that I didn't realize it's hard to let go of that fast-paced dialogue."

Furthermore, shedding more light on her final days on set, Brosnahan told the outlet at the premiere, "It was emotional, close," adding, "We felt so lucky to all be there together." 

She also mentioned that "the entire family and almost every character who had been on the show" over the years of production was present, so they all "got to close the chapter together, which was "pretty good."

Amid the wrap-up of the final season of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," Brosnahan shared a closing photo on Instagram on November 5 from her last day on set. She attached a brief note of appreciation to the entire production team in the caption that partly read, "A cast, a crew, and creators who got to time travel for five years together. It changed my life. I'm eternally grateful."

According to Amazon Prime, the last season of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" will see Midge closer than ever to the success she's dreamed of, only to discover that closer than ever is still so far away."

The last season of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" will premiere on Friday, April 14, on Prime Video, and the finale's trailer indicates that Midge's dreams are more significant than ever. In the trailer, an interviewer asked the housewife-turned-comedian, "What drives Midge Maisel? And she replied, "I want a big life. I want to break every single rule there is."

Although Midge eventually found her "big break" multiple times in the first four seasons after striving with her comedy career, her success never came simply or for a long time.

"It's two steps forward, three steps back, and I'm tired of it," the character admitted. Thankfully, she has her best friend and agent, Susie, played by Alex Borstein, who always supports her.

"This is it. This is the break," Susie proclaimed. "They'll see you for what you are – a goddamn star."

As Midge progresses on her journey to fame, she struggles to balance it with her love life which seems complicated, but she never takes her eyes away from her goal.    

While the Wisconsin native has exceptionally performed as Miriam "Midge" Maisel, her past didn't encourage her to pursue her funny side. Per The Blast, before getting starred in the comedy show, the 32-year-old actress confessed that she was regularly told she was not amusing enough for comedy.

 She spoke candidly about it at the series' FYC event at the Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, stating that she spent the first few years of her career being advised to choose another profession.

It was not insulting to Brosnahan as she saw it as professionals advising her to "head in a different direction" and "maybe consider something here."
