R. Kelly's ex-wife is using her experiences of alleged abuse with the singer to spread awareness about domestic violence to other women and raising some money for a good cause in the process.

Last weekend, Drea Kelly traveled to the Island of Anguilla to be the keynote speaker at "Women's Week," hosted by the Gender Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Social Development.

Drea spoke to hundreds of women at the CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa on the "truth about domestic violence and how to survive it." We're told the theme of the event was "Women of Faith, Hope & Love," and Drea spoke with a sold out crowd during the "Hats & Heels Brunch."

She also hosted "A Night with DREA," and raised over $10,000 between the two events. Officials in Anguilla, who are raising funds to establish the island's first domestic violence hotline, said Drea "brought added sunshine to our tropical paradise and breathed life and truth into issues of abuse that we were all too silent about."

We're told Drea and her management team also made a "sizable pledge" to the organization.

Meanwhile, R. Kelly appeared in court Wednesday in Chicago to lower his child support payment ... and he was denied.
