Amanda Bynes remains under a psychiatric hold following her unexpected hospitalization on March 19.
The former child star, who rose to fame in the late ’90s and early 2000s with her roles in hit shows and movies such as “The Amanda Show,” “What a Girl Wants,” and “Hairspray,” has had a tumultuous few years in the public eye. She has been open about her struggles with mental health and substance abuse, leading to several rehab stints and legal troubles.
Amanda Bynes’ Hospitalization Continues, 3 Weeks And Counting
As the star approaches the three-week mark since her hospitalization, those close to her are already strategizing to ensure she receives the necessary support and care once she is released. Although her discharge date remains unknown, her loved ones are working to ensure she stays on the right track.
Insiders revealed exclusively to TMZ that the 37-year-old and the medical professionals overseeing her care have been approaching her hospitalization weekly. It was also noted that Bynes is not being held against her will but that she reportedly does not feel prepared to leave the facility yet.
However, once she feels ready to depart, she will enroll in an outpatient mental health treatment program to continue her progress toward recovery. Sources disclosed that she will now make her own medical decisions as she is no longer under a conservatorship lifted in 2022 after being in place for nine years.
Also, contrary to reports, her parents have not been with her during her hospitalization but have continued to support and assist her in any way possible. As previously reported by the outlet, the “She’s the Man” star made headlines last month when she was found wandering the streets of Los Angeles naked.
She had flagged down a vehicle and called 911 to report that she was experiencing a psychotic episode and needed assistance. Following her call, she was placed on a psychiatric hold and has remained in the hospital ever since.
The cause of her current situation might be related to her significant weight loss, which is suspected of having resulted from prescription drug abuse. The Blast noted that insiders revealed that she had been experiencing considerable change in recent months. They pointed out that those close to her suspected she might have abused prescription medication, which caused her to drop below 100 pounds.
While the sources are choosing to stay quiet on what substance she might be using, it is worth noting that the former child star has had a past with Adderall – a prescription drug that can result in significant weight loss if abused.
During an interview with PEOPLE in 2018, she spoke candidly about her struggles with drug abuse. She divulged that severe body image issues brought on her addiction to Adderall during the height of her career. She explained that this addiction led her to quit acting altogether.
Amanda Bynes Rekindles Relationship With Ex-Fiancé Paul Michael
After a brief summer breakup, the “What a Girl Wants” actress and her former beau reportedly reconciled and got back together. The Blast detailed that sources claimed Michael moved back into Bynes’ Los Angeles home just weeks after the couple split.
While it was unclear if the engagement was back on, it seemed like she was willing to give their relationship another chance. However, people close to them were not surprised as they claimed that the pair had a pattern of reconciling and finding their way back to each other. This meant their reunion at the time was just another chapter in their tumultuous romance.
According to reports, Bynes posted a picture of herself holding hands with a man whose tattoos matched those of her ex-fiancé on her Instagram story, suggesting a possible rekindling of their romance.
Before that, it was revealed that their engagement ended amidst her claims that Micheal had relapsed into drug use, including crack cocaine which caused the police to intervene at her home. The Critics’ Choice Awards winner also accused Michael of watching mother-son pornography, which she publicly shared with her Instagram followers.
