The Emmy Award-winning "This Is Us" star Sterling K Brown ("Black Panther," "Solar Opposites," "Frozen II," "Hotel Artemis") is reteaming with the show's creator, Dan Fogelman ("Tangled," "Cars"), for a new drama series that's currently in the works at Hulu, per The Hollywood Reporter. Details on the show are being kept under wraps, but the show has already been given a straight-to-series order for Hulu.
Sterling K. Brown To Star In New Hulu Drama By 'This Is Us' Creator, Dan Fogelman
"This Is Us" recently ended its six-year run on NBC in May 2022, running for 106 episodes. While details on the new show are being kept secret, THR reports that the plot may involve a security guard and a former president. THR reports that Hulu declined to comment on the show's premise.
Fogelman took his spec script to senior-level executives at 20th Television, where he currently has a lucrative overall deal, and he pitched the show. Hulu eventually gave the project a series order. Brown was soon brought in to star in, and executive produced the new series.
Brown won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2017 for his performance in the show as Randall Pearson. The show received 39 Primetime Emmy Award Nominations, earning four wins. In 2017, the show also received Television Academy Honors.
Jess Rosenthal, who heads up Fogelman's Rhode Island Ave. Productions Banner will also executive produce the show along with John Hoberg. Fogelman previously collaborated with Hoberg on the cult favorites ABC sitcoms, "Galavant" and "The Neighbors." "Galavant" was a hilarious musical and comedic fantasy mash-up that lasted for two seasons and 18 episodes.
The new project also marks the second at Hulu for Fogelman, as he executive produces the series "Only Murders in the Building" under his overall deal with 20th Television.
Meanwhile, Brown is also set to star in a Hulu limited series called "Washington Black," also produced by 20th Century Television. Besides "This Is Us," he also picked up an Emmy Award in 2016 for Ryan Murphy's "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J." and for narrating the six-part miniseries "Lincoln: Divided We Stand."
Hulu has had great success with original drama and sitcom shows in recent years. They include such popular shows as "The Handmaid's Tale," "The Great," "How I Met Your Father," "Only Murders in the Building," "Life & Beth," and "This Fool."
"This Is Us" was a critically acclaimed and prestigious series. Fogelman reuniting with Brown for a brand-new, ongoing drama series could be exciting. Also, the fact that Hulu gave the project a straight-to-series order shows how much prestige Fogelman has earned within the industry that the show got such a quick pickup.
Brown and Fogelman's new series is currently in the works for Hulu. The show is still untitled and will be released exclusively on the streamer later. It does not yet have an official release date.
