Zakir Didn't Set Out To Be Popular For His Dating Stories On TikTok

When the 28-year-old TikToker shared his first dating horror story, he didn't realize it would become the hit that it did. So, he continued to share his dating journey.

"My first horrific dating story experience happened, and the emotion I felt made me resort to TikTok," he explained. "It sucks how it's happened multiple times, but people enjoy it."

And Zakir has had some interesting, if that's the right word use, things happen to him while online dating. He's had not one, but multiple women request money from him before meeting. He also took a long drive to meet up with someone he had been talking to for months, which didn't play out exactly as he had hoped.

"I met two people through Instagram DMs after they found me through TikTok. One of them, I got to know for two-and-a-half months. She lived in Los Angeles, and I'm in San Francisco, so I took half a day off and drove six hours to see her," he said. "I drove down, and she postponed the date for 30 minutes. Then she called and said she had to take her mom to the airport."

After that call, she contacted him again to request $100 to get her mom to the airport. He explains the whole situation in a TikTok video.

"I just drove six hours for a first date. And before you think I'm crazy, let me tell you why I did it," he began his video. "I've been talking to this girl for little over a month. She slid into my DMs saying, 'Hey Zakir, I love your TikToks, and you make me laugh, and I love your traumatic dating stories, and I love when you get stood up by people all the time."

He then said they'd been video chatting on and off, and he was excited that she was honest, so they made plans to get dinner, despite the six-hour drive between them. Zakir offered to drive to her, so he took the six-hour trek to have sushi with this new dating prospect.

"She lives seven minutes away from the restaurant. We plan to meet at 7 o'clock. She's late," he explained. "I mean, it's fine, you know. I only gave her a six-hour head start."

He then gets asked if he can push the date to 7:30. As it approaches 7:30 while waiting in his car in the parking garage, she texts him that she has to take her mom to the airport because of a family emergency.

"So she says, 'I'm going to take my mom to the airport quickly. I'll keep you posted on where I am. If you're still around, I would love to grab sushi tonight if we're still on,'" he continued.

He then gets another text from the gas station that her card doesn't work and asks him to Cash App her $100 so she can get her mom to the airport. "So I opened Cash App and typed in $100, and I hit request for my gas," he concluded his story.

Zakir Saw A Great Opportunity When Dafna Shared Her Dating Story On TikTok

If it isn't funny enough to hear all the craziness that happens to him, he also found a hilarious opportunity to grow his fanbase and give TikTok scrollers some fun drama to follow. He started some "rabbit hole" type of content where one video leads to another that leads to another. Before you know it, you've spent hours watching videos, reading comments, and trying to figure out what's real and what's not.

If you're an avid TikTok scroller, you may remember Dafna Diamant. She shared a video of her date story where her date didn't want to spend an extra $3 for cheese on his burger. She made a big deal about it, paying for the meal without him knowing, leaving the restaurant, and texting him. After that, he should have gotten the cheese. She also claimed to have blocked this guy. But from one video to the next, her story kept on changing. Viewers were questioning everything and started to believe that everything was a lie.

What does this have to do with Zakir, you might be wondering? He saw a brilliant opportunity to have some fun, and since he's sort of an expert in dating horror stories, what better content to run with?

He stitched Diamant's original video playing the role of the $3 cheese guy. His video received more views than hers, and many people in the comments were buying his story. He kept this going from one video to the next and even dropped hints that he was playing around and was not the guy on the date if there was a date.

His video received nearly 14 million views and got tons of hilarious comments.

"You dodged a bullet and got a free dinner," one person wrote. Another added, "I want to believe it was you, but your dates don't usually appear."

Popular TikToker Elyse Myers even dropped into the comments after watching the video and wrote, "I won't be able to sleep until I know if this was you on this date." More than 44,000 people liked her comment, so he had many people fooled or at least second-guessing if he could be the guy.

"I think I don't want to say right place, right time, but from posting my dating stories, I remember getting comments on one of my videos asking if I'm the $3 cheese guy," he said. "The night I reacted to Dafna's video, I happened to be at In-N-Out Burger. I found the video and posted a reaction to play along with it. I was blown away by the traction it got."

Zakir never admitted to being the guy but never said he wasn't. He did give a clue in one video that many people still missed.

When asked what he wants his TikTok followers to know, he said, "Pull up a chair, sit back, and grab some popcorn." He also wants people to know they aren't alone if they are struggling with the world of dating.

"I think that people should just know if they are going through a rough patch with dating that it's hard for everyone," he said.

And by the way, if you're wondering what Zakir's favorite online dating apps are, his top three, from best to worst, are Hinge, Bumble, and Tinder. Happy dating!
