Conor McGregor is a master at PR ... so it's not a big surprise that he announced his retirement right after revealing that he was in negotiations with Dana White about his next bout at UFC.

Minutes after McGregor appeared during a taped segment on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," and told the host he was "in talks for July" to get back in the Octagon, McGregor announced his retirement.

"Hey guys quick announcement, I've decided to retire from the sport formally known as 'Mixed Martial Art' today," he tweeted. The announcement seemed suspect, considering McGregor told Fallon, there are "lots of politics going on," during negotiations.

It's not the first time McGregor has announced his retirement, back in 2016 he "retired" during negotiations with UFC over a fight. He eventually came out of retirement and fought longtime rival Nate Diaz.

Dana White does not appear to think the announcement is bogus, and told ESPN, it "totally makes sense." McGregor has been making a ton of money on his Proper 12 Whiskey, and White believes the MMA star has the money to retire.

The move also comes days after McGregor was arrested for allegedly destroying a man's iPhone outside of a hotel in Miami.
