Sophie Turner is livid and is not hiding her feelings!
The actress rose to fame for her role as Sansa Stark in the widely acclaimed series Game of Thrones and has gone on to star in other blockbusters like the X-Men film series. In a recent post, she shared her thoughts on the controversy surrounding Ozempic, a drug used to treat Type 2 diabetes that has gained attention recently for its off-label use as a weight loss aid.
Sophie Turner Speaks Out On Ozempic Controversy
On Monday, the "Barely Lethal" star reposted an Instagram post that showed images of the drug's ads in Times Square subway station, accompanied by a statement that expressed disdain towards them, reading, "The Olympic ads plastered across the Times Square subway station can fâk off."
She expressed her anger towards the widespread promotion by adding above the image, "WTF." The original poster, which also had much to say in the caption, expressed concern that "crazy (and dangerous!) quick weight loss fads" were still rampant in 2023.
They pointed out that using it for things it was not meant for was dangerous and created shortages for those who genuinely needed it. The poster stated, "I can't begin to tell you how stupid taking medication that isn't prescribed for you is, but as someone still recovering, I know young girls will see these posters and see it as a quick fix."
They concluded by emphasizing the need to prioritize caring for our bodies and avoid drastic measures that can ruin lives.
Turner's personal experience with an eating disorder makes her perspective on this issue all the more poignant, and one can even understand her rage, seeing as it almost ruined her life. According to Page Six, she had to employ a live-in therapist â also known as a companion â due to the severity of her case.
In an interview with Elle, the 26-year-old revealed she was "quite sick" with her eating disorder for a long time. Her companion monitored her eating habits and ensured she did not engage in unhealthy behaviors.
She explained to journalist Lottie Lumsden that she had a "love-hate relationship with social media" because it often triggered her disorder, causing her thoughts to spiral out of control. Turner recalled one night when she was obsessively replaying a comment she had seen on Instagram, causing her to spiral into negative thoughts about her body and desirability, saying, "I'm so fat, I'm so undesirable."
Reflecting on her experience, she shared that her companion offered her valuable advice, saying, "' You know, no one cares. I know you think this, but nobody else is thinking about it. You're not that important."' She noted that this was the best advice anyone could have given her, as it helped her to gain perspective and recognize that her negative thoughts were not rooted in reality.
However, she revealed that although she gained insight from the advice, social media still makes her feel "incredibly anxious." So keeps her distance from it and has gone to the extent of deleting the Instagram app from her phone.
