Leo DiCaprio Testified In Campaign-Finance Conspiracy Involving Fugees Member

Leonardo DiCaprio appeared in court today to speak on his friend Pras Michel's behalf in a financial deal gone shady.
Leo DiCaprio Is Only The First
DiCaprio is the first of many stars said to take the stand either in person or via zoom in response to Michel and Jho Low, a Malaysian businessman who was allegedly working with Michel and stole billions of dollars from a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund, 1MDB.
Michel has maintained his innocence, and Low is on the LAM. No one can find him, so as of now, Michel is on the hook. This is why he has to bring in the big guns. As for the accusations? Low is accused of giving Michel over $100 million to influence at the time President Donald Trump and other government officials to drop investigations regarding him in the US.
DiCaprio is also connected to the case via his business relationship with Low. The Malaysian businessman helped finance the successful film The Wolf of Wallstreet in that DiCaprio starred.
He was also the guy who gave DiCaprio Marlon Brando's Academy Award for Best Actor for 1954's On The Waterfront. It was all cute and fun then, but fast forward to today, and this guy is on the run.
What Happened In The Courtroom?
DiCaprio took the stand briefly and attested to his friendship with Michel. There was even a bit of silliness as prosecutor Nicole Lockhart asked DiCaprio: "At the risk of asking a stupid question, what do you do for a living?"
DiCaprio used his time on the stand to not only describe Michel as a good man who he has known since the 90s but to tell the jury that Low, the man who is out in these streets, loved good ol' "lavish parties" taking places all over the world presumably just where he happens to be vacationing at the time.
According to CNN, Dicaprio was on the stand for about an hour. He testified that he stopped speaking with Low around 2015 when it was brought to his attention that the businessman was accused of embezzlement.
Low and an associate had given DiCaprio another incredible gift, a freaking Picasso painting which we assumed he returned in 2017 when he gave back the Oscar. Fun fact: That same Oscar is now in a federal warehouse in Texas.
Jho Low Wanted In On The Movie Biz
This isn't a particular fact, but the businessman's money is wrapped up in so much drama, much of which is in movies. He allegedly had some financial connection to Red Granite Pictures, the production company for The Wolf of Wallstreet.
The prosecutors were also trying to get down to what other films Low may have funded via Red Granite Pictures. DiCaprio felt taken for a ride by Low because he understood him to be "sort of a prodigy in the business world and ultra-successful."
DiCaprio also testified that Low told him "he and a group were going to make a significant contribution to the Democratic Party." He quoted Low saying about $20 or 30 million. "I said, 'wow, that's a lot of money.'"
DiCaprio also shared that he and his team are working with US prosecutors to return funds he or his charities received from 1MDB and Low.
