Kieran Culkin Has Banned These Popular Publications From Interviews

Kieran Culkin is strict about the publications he gives interviews to and constantly reveals the top two he refuses.
Kieran Culkin Is Selective
Esquire magazine is pleased to have the opportunity to sit down with Culkin and knows that it is a rare opportunity. The Succession actor doesn't do many interviews and admits it's because of how complex the press was on his family when he was younger.
Culkin comes from an acting family, the Culkins, where he admits that all seven siblings were encouraged to act by their parents. He watched his brother Macaulay Culkin rise to fame with the Home Alone movies. "Poor f**king guy," he thought, likening his brother's experience to Shirly Temple's.
Culkin thought to himself. "Even at that time, as a kid, I remember thinking, that sucks for him." In fact, it sucked for all of them, according to his experience. He remembers the paparazzi being around all the time, and it was a scary and annoying experience for himself and his siblings.
Kieran Culkin Has A Publication Ban
In 1995, when he was a 13-year-old, and his parents were divorcing, he says the paparazzi were horrible to them. It was so bad that he wrote a letter to the judge handling his parent's divorce, begging for a publication ban.
"Your Honor," he wrote, "I ask you please to spare my family any further embarrassment by letting the press in the courtroom. It has already been hard on us, and I see no point to it," he wrote as a young boy.
The judge said no and allowed cameras in. Culkin, to this day, has a complicated grudge against Access Hollywood and The New York Post. "They did a whole piece on my family in 1997," Culkin says of Access Hollywood.
The New York Post was not far off. "The newspaper doesn't always give you the facts." He stops to rephrase. "Let me rephrase that. The New York Post doesn't always give you the f**king facts."
Some Outlets Get Past The Ban
Culkin admits sometimes he doesn't always catch who he is speaking with, especially in a red carpet situation, and it's all rushed and messy. "They don't always tell you who you're talking to until after you've talked to them," says Culkin.
He asks afterward, "'Who is that by the way?' They're like, 'Access Hollywood.' 'F**k! Just broke my own f**king rule.'" It doesn't look like Culkin is doing it to be a jerk, but he does seem to be holding a grudge.
Because of this childhood experience, he clearly finds it hard to trust people and not just the media. He has a set of 8mm tapes he would love to convert to digital but doesn't trust anyone to do it out of fear of a leak.
Culkin is very protective of his sibling, especially those still in the industry, like Macaulay and Rory Culkin, who just appeared (penis out) in Amazon Prime's original show, Swarm. Claire Danes was asked about the siblings and her experience working with Culkin in Igby Goes Down. She vouched for how defensive the brothers can be of one another.
She says they are "very protective of each other."
