Patrick Reed's Estranged Family Will Not Attend the Masters Tourney to Watch Son Defend Title

Patrick Reed will have a ton to worry about as he tees up for the first round of the Masters, but his estranged family being greenside won't be one of them.

The Blast spoke with Bill Reed, the estranged father of the 2018 Masters Champion. The Reed family actually lives in Augusta, GA less than 6 miles from the blossoming azalea flowers at Augusta National Golf Club.

Bill tells us the family has no plans to attend the Masters this year, and will once again be watching from home.

Reed's father tells us he went over to the course last Saturday to watch the final round of the Women's Amateur, but that's where his in-person viewing at Augusta National Golf Club ends.

We're told the Reeds, like they did when Patrick won the Masters, "host a bunch of people who stay at the house who have opened their homes for us during Patrick's junior and Amateur journey." Bill says the housing gets very expensive around Augusta during Masters week, and hosting friends who have helped out in the past is their way of "paying it forward."

The rift between Patrick and his family was brought to light last year after he won the prestigious title while his family watched at home. The 28-year-old's father, mother and sister were not invited, nor have they spoken since the PGA star's 2012 marriage to his wife, Justine Reed.

We actually caught up with Reed last year after he won the coveted Green Jacket, and he refused to answer questions about his parents.

Wondering if they would try and see him defend the title, Reed did speak on the matter recently with the New York Times and said, "I wouldn’t at all be surprised if they show up."

Reed will get his shot at recreating the magic that made him champion last year, and his family will be watching from 6 miles away.

The first round of the Masters begins Thursday.
