Model Chloe Veitch is best known for appearing in season 1 of "Too Hot To Handle."
After she didn't find love there, she traveled to Panama to film "Perfect Match." Although she hit it off with Shayne Jansen from season 2 of "Love Is Blind," the two parted ways shortly after filming.
Chloe now wants to be a positive influence on her two million Instagram followers and is opening up about her struggles with sobriety and her ADHD diagnosis.
Chloe Veitch Reveals How ADHD Has Impacted Her Life
In an interview with Wondermind, published earlier this week, the Netflix reality star opened up about her struggles with ADHD. She revealed that her mother had tried to get her diagnosed when she was around 11 years old, but said it was “very hard to get women diagnosed with ADHD because I think it was just sexist.”
After admitting that her brother had been diagnosed with ADHD around the same time, Chloe felt that her mom “kind of knew” she had it too. “She put me in different after-school clubs,” Chloe said of her mom’s behavior. “She would keep thick diaries on my behavior, what I used to eat, how I would act, and how I handled my emotions because she knew that she'd need that one day.”
Once she “hit adulthood,” Chloe moved out and got a flat apartment of her own after appearing on season 1 of Netflix’s hit reality series “Too Hot To Handle.” However, she found it difficult navigating life on her own.
“I'm getting default payments. I'm missing bills. I'm losing all my charges. I'm losing my car keys,” she explained. “I'm overwhelmed with work. It's getting to a point where I'm sleeping in all day, every day because I cannot cope with the stress of my life. Then it was just spiraling out of control.”
One day, Chloe explained that she burst into tears because she was stressed about doing the laundry and couldn’t remember what temperature to use for certain garments. She recalled how she would call her mom to come over and help her more and more often.
Chloe Says That She Would Miss Meetings And Be Constantly Late Before ADHD Diagnosis
“It would get to a point where some days I'd want to clean my house and I'd be on it. And then other times it would be really hard for me to even get up and brush my teeth,” Chloe explained. “So then my physical and personal hygiene levels started dropping.”
“I would miss meetings. I would be late to things all the time,” she went on. “I didn't have that function in my brain where I could focus on a conversation and actually take in what they were saying. So, people say, ‘Oh, she's really ditzy. She's really dumb. What's going on with Chloe?’ I am. That is a part of me, but that's also my ADHD. I have a short attention span. I can't concentrate on something for too long, otherwise, I just get really overwhelmed.”
Chloe revealed that she didn’t actually get diagnosed with ADHD until last year when she went to a specialist. She handed over all of the journals her mom used to keep about her behavior as a child. Chloe says that the diagnosis has actually given her more acceptance of who she is.
“Being diagnosed has helped me stop getting angry with myself because it used to get to a point where I used to get really upset. I used to be like, Why can't I be normal? Why can't I just go out the house and remember to put diesel in my car?” Chloe explained. “But instead I'm at the side of the road and I've run out of diesel, I've run out of petrol. Why? So instead of beating myself up about it, it was accepting and acknowledging that, OK, this is ADHD and this is normal. Loads of people have it.”
Chloe Reveals That Having Conversations With Friends Has Helped Her Cope With ADHD
When asked how she copes with ADHD, she said that it helps to have a conversation with her friends "and sitting them down and educating them." She gave an example of her friend, Nicole, who did not understand that some of Chloe's behaviors are tied to her ADHD symptoms.
"When I went to America, I spoke to her, but I didn't speak to her enough because it's kind of out of sight, out of mind, lack of empathy sort of thing, which is tied to ADHD," Chloe explained. "She didn't understand. So I had to have a conversation with her and say to her, 'Nic, it's also a part of my ADHD.' Some people can't see that. They just assume because I look fine that I'm OK, but actually I don't mean to upset you or annoy you."
