One fan wrote in all caps to state, "ONCE IT ENDS, IM GOING THROUGH THE STAGES OF GRIEF," while this person who clearly lives and breathes for the series wrote, "final season? ? how do you want me to survive, TELL ME???."

This fan praised Netflix for ending it in the fifth season because they believed the character could "only get away so much without it feeling washed out or repetitive."

Some followers were already predicting the plot and how it would end, like this user who stated emphatically, "If he doesn't get killed by all the women that are still alive, then I want nothing."

Season four saw Joe adopt a new identity as Professor Jonathan Moore and embark on an academic career overseas, immersing himself in London's high society. Unfortunately, shortly after he settled, he found himself entangled in a series of murders committed by a killer who targeted his newly made friends.

Determined to drop his former life, he suppressed his killer tendencies in spite of the provocation. In Part 2 of the show, the serial killer formed an unexpected bond with another individual who shared his penchant for violence.

Penn Badgley Calls Out Netflix For Humanizing Serial Killers In Its Content

The "Gossip Girl" star joined the conversation on Netflix's portrayal of serial killers, specifically in the release of "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story." The actor spoke out against the streaming platform's choices, criticizing the way in which it humanizes and generates empathy for real-life killers through its content.

Despite his efforts to discourage fans from having a crush on his character in "YOU," The Blast shared that Badgley's portrayal in the first part of season 4 did not help in dampening anything.

However, in an appearance on Entertainment Tonight, the actor once again addressed the issue of fans finding themselves attracted to serial killers when he was asked, "What is your message to people who are finding themselves attracted to serial killers?"

He replied with a request for those individuals to introspect before he acknowledged that their show was designed to make people develop feelings for the character, Joe. He then differentiated their show's intention from the responsibility that lies with other real-life personalities like Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer.

However, he noted that the responsibility for portraying individuals like Dahmer rested solely on Netflix's shoulders. When discussing why certain individuals were attracted to murderers, the "John Tucker Must Die" actor admitted that he had some insights, but they would require a lengthy explanation. He went on to describe the phenomenon as strange.
