The newly minted Oscar winners have been getting some pushback from fans, however, which Kwan later addressed in his Instagram Stories on Monday.
'Everything Everywhere All At Once' Directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert Say They Directed 'Star Wars' Series 'Skeleton Crew' Because They 'Needed Healthcare'
On Monday, Kwan took to his Instagram Stories to address the backlash from Star Wars fans that were concerned that the Daniels were being sucked into the “corporate machine.”
"Lol, all of the people @ing us about getting sucked up by the 'corporate machine' can chill. These headlines are always misleading," Kwan wrote. "Don't worry. We aren't working on a whole series, we guest directed one episode.”
"Jon Watts approached us to do an episode a while ago (before EEAAO even came out),” he explained. “We love Jon, love Star Wars, love learning new tech, we love meeting new cast and crew, and we needed the days to keep our healthcare (!!!) so it was an easy yes."
“We shot it last year and had an incredible time working with the most talented cast and crew and I’m excited for you all to see it,” he added. “Our next film will be an original Daniels project so you can stop worrying (and stop bothering me about it)."

The annual Star Wars Celebration event is happening in London next month, so fans are likely to get many more answers at that time. The show was actually announced at last year’s Star Wars celebration event. At the time, Watts explained that the story is about a group of kids, all around 10 years old, from a little planet that gets lost in the galaxy. The series revolves around them finding their way back home.
Although the identity of the child actors is still under wraps, actor Jude Law has been attached to star in the series since its announced. At the time, producer Dave Filoni warned that although it was starring child actors, it was not a kids' show and compared it to the animated “The Clone Wars” series.
“I’m like, we cut people’s heads off in Clone Wars, so I’m not sure that’s the best measure,” Filoni admitted at the time. The series is being developed by Jon Watts, who directed the “Spider-Man” trilogy, and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” with writer Christopher Ford.
The project had initially been nicknamed Grammar Rodeo. A Vanity Fair article published at the time mentioned that Grammar Rodeo is actually a reference to an episode of “The Simpsons” that features Bart Simpson and his friends trying to steal a car and run away for a weekend.
That's Not The Only 'Star Wars' Series Fans Are Looking Forward To!
In addition to “Skeleton Crew,” fans are eager to get more information about several other Disney+ series, including season 2 of “Andor,” “Ahsoka,” and “The Acolyte.”
“The Hunger Games” star Amandla Stenberg first announced her casting at San Diego Comic-Con with an Instagram post featuring photos of her posing alongside R2-D2 and Darth Vader.
"Next stop: a galaxy far, far away… I am so excited to finally announce I’m joining Star Wars: #TheAcolyte ! Honored is an understatement," She wrote at the time. "May the Force be with you."
In an interview with The Face magazine (via Game Rant) Amandla revealed that Lucasfilm producers had written the lead character of the series with her in mind.
"The Lucasfilm team came to me with this project which was fully conceptualized with me in mind, and I was astounded,” she told the publication. Although some entertainers are not overly familiar with Star Wars when they get cast in the famous franchise, Amandla described herself as a big fan of the movies and TV shows, adding that she is “so lucky” to get to “get lost” in the franchise as part of her job.
"I get to read, watch, and breathe Star Wars. It's my job to get lost in it, I'm so lucky," she said. "My plans were interrupted by a very different life path, but one that I think is going to be a huge blessing."
