Larry King‘s estranged wife Shawn King is ready to battle it out in court over the late talk show host’s millions.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Shawn is objecting to the will left by Larry that cut her off.
Shawn says at the time of his death Larry had no intention of finalizing their divorce. The document states, “At the time of Larry’s death there was a divorce proceeding that had been pending for quite some time. Larry was not pushing the divorce and was generally nonresponsive and refused to participate in the divorce proceeding. He gave no indication that he actually wanted to pursue a divorce.”
Shawn claims after Larry filed for divorce they “had gone to counseling, were still speaking, and reconciliation remained possible until Larry’s health conditions made that impractical.”
Shawn is also making a stand claiming that she was a bigger part of Larry King’s life and that although his son shares the same name, the TV host wanted nothing to do with Larry King, Jr.
“Larry indicated that he did not even know of [Larry King Jr’s] existence,” until the son tracked him down when he was in his 30s. She makes it clear that Larry King, Jr. has “never been involved in Larry’s career or business, and it would be highly inappropriate to place in a position of representing Larry’s estate.”
She claims the handwritten will that Larry wrote, 2 months after filing for divorce, violates the terms of 2 different post-nuptial agreements between herself and Larry.
Shawn is accusing Larry of having a “secret account” that he would make gifts to individuals using community property that she is entitled to, and that she claims to have receipts for over $266,000 sent to Larry King Jr between 2013-2018. She wants 50% of everything Larry ever gave to Larry King Jr from the couple’s community property.
Larry’s estranged wife believes she should be named the executor of the legendary talk show’s estate. She is asking for a 2015 will signed by Larry to be entered into the court record.
She calls into question if Larry knew he signing the 2019 will. The response read, “Larry was highly susceptible to outside influences and at the time he purportedly executed the Holographic Will was of questionable mental capacity, having recently suffered a stroke and about to undergo a medical procedure (and possibly already under the influence of pre-operative medication).”
As The Blast first reported, Larry made it clear in a handwritten 2019 will, he did not want his estranged wife Shawn receiving a dime from his estate.
According to the will obtained by The Blast, the document was signed two months after Larry filed for divorce from his 7th wife, Shawn King. He expressed his desire for all of his money to be divided between his children.
The will was signed a couple of days before the iconic talk show host’s 87th birthday on October 17, 2019. It read, “This is my Last Will & Testament. It should replace all previous writings In the event of my death, any day after the above date I want 100% of my funds to be divided equally among my children Andy, Chaia, Lary Jr Chance & Cannon.”
In the documents, Larry explained he was going through a divorce with Shawn and were living separately. They were never officially divorced at the time of his death.
His will stated, “The Decedent was married to Shawn Southwick King (“Ms. King”) at the time of death. However, the Decedent and Ms. King were actively involved in ongoing dissolution proceedings in Los Angeles Superior Court. The Decedent and Ms. King were residing separately at the time of death.”
Larry claimed Shawn had no stake in his fortune or becoming the administrator of his estate because he had already initiated a divorce.
Shawn is clearly ready for a fight. A judge has yet to rule.
